Head to Route 102

The pair of you returned to Oldale Town, and from there went on to Route 102. A trainer challenged you to a battle, but you had little difficulty defeating his single zigzagoon that looked like it was more interested in playing than fighting. He gave you eighty pokedollars for winning.

Getting to Petalburg City would mean going through some tall grass and almost certainly battling a wild pokemon. There were a few berry bushes along the side of the trail, and a girl who was probably just barely eighteen and old enough to get a licence was battling a bug catcher further up the route, just on this side of the tall grass.

"Think we should catch any more pokemon for our first gym battle up in Petalburg?" May asked.

You considered. "Maybe if there's something good. Dad uses normal types, but I don't think there are any ghost or fighting type pokemon here for us to catch."

"Ye- Wait, dad?" May asked.

"Oh, I guess that never came up. Yeah, the new Petalburg gym leader is my dad. That's actually why we moved to Hoenn."

"Huh. Cool." May sounded impressed.

You shrugged as you decided what to do next.
