Head Outside

You decide to go take a look around outside the pool, you were going to have to leave at some point, and it is better to go outside when it is light. You walk over to the large plate sealing the entrance to the room, and run you hands over its uneven surface. You can feel the sheer mass of the plate, and know that it would take some serious muscle to break into the pool.

You look back over your shoulder at the girl in the corner of the room, ravenously devouring food from the ripped open vending machine. You snap your fingers loudly, attracting her attention. Once she is looking at you, you gesture toward the large plate covering the door.

“Open this would you.” You say calmly.

The girl walks over to you, finishing the last of the snack bar in her hands, tossing the wrapper to one side.

“And exactly how am I meant to do that? That thing is massive.” She replies a little sullenly.

Annoyance creeps into your voice as you reply, “With your demon of course, did you forget all of last night already?”

“oh, yeh, right…” She replies quietly, her voice trailing off as her eyes go a bit distant.

A pillar of black smoke boils into existence, and quickly forms itself into the figure of her demon, armoured identically to how it was during the battle last night. The powerful demon walks forward, and forcefully pulls the planks from their hooks on either side of the plate, and rests them next to the door. The demon then stretches out its arms, gripping either side of the door, and lifts the massive plate into the air. Stepping to one side it places the plank against a wall, completely revealing the partially opened doors to the outside.

Bright sunlight streams in through the crack between the doors, a long spear of brightness extending deep into the room. You gesture for Evie to follow you, and walk out into the bright outdoors. You squint from sunlight, and peer around at the immediate area.

The yellow sunlight gives a summery colouring to everything, and the lack of people reminds you of when you came into college during the summer holidays once. In the distance you can see the ruined physics block, a massive hole surrounded by rubble decorating the front of the once pristine building. Evie approaches you and stops just to your left, also looking far out into the college.

You, look to the girl, and notice her demon standing just behind you, the open doors to the pool a little behind it. An idea comes to you, and you glance toward the girl at your side.

“Evie, could you send your demon back inside the pool and replace that huge plate, we don’t want any unwelcome visitors whilst we are out now do we.”

The girl nods, and her demon walks back inside the building. Soon after a massive plate is pushed over the door from the inside, blocking any entrance. A few more moments and Evie looks up at you expectantly, and you guess that this means the demon had finished its task and Evie has dismissed it.

You look over into the sunlit college and beyond, into the forest and the tall spire of the town church just beyond that, and further, into the horizon. An incredible sense of freedom flows through your mind, the knowledge that you can do absolutely everything you want making you feel so very powerful. So, what do you decide to do?
