Chapter 3 by thesuperman90 thesuperman90

What does Sean do?

He taps the icon...

With a simple tap of his right thumb on the screen, simple, black text appeared as though someone were typing to him. It read:
"Welcome to "The App" where all your hopes and dreams come to life with just one word."

Sean chuckled that annoying laugh you make when you think you're being pranked or tricked. He shook his head and almost closed the app to delete it when the text continued, "Tutorial mode: Active. To learn the rules of the app, please complete the tutorial." He rolled his eyes and, having nothing better to do this evening, entered the tutorial.

"The App is designed to help you alter your world by changing just one word in the phrase displayed on your screen. Please note: you may only change one word and cannot add any additional words. Hyphenated words are allowed. Examples include 'sister-in-law', 'high-definition' or 'co-worker'. Please alter the tutorial phrase below to continue." The app typed a phrase out with a single word hovering over a line, "Your socks are red." Sean laughed and shook his head with an annoyed smile. He wasn't wearing any socks... but with an amused expression and nothing else to do, Sean changed the word "red" to "blue" then tapped the "Submit" icon. His phone buzzed, Sean shifted on the couch and felt his feet go from bare to covered, and looked down to find that...a blanket had fallen off the back of the couch onto his feet. Removing the fallen blanket revealed his still bare feet.

With a sigh, Sean looked back to his phone before sighing and feeling the last vestiges of his energy begin slipping from him. The App congratulated him on his successful completion of the tutorial, gave a brief warning about the affects of reality alteration, all of which Sean ignored as he blindly tapped a button, shut his phone screen off, then climbed the stairs to head to bed. After taking care of his business in the bathroom, he walked into his bedroom quietly. As he entered the room and watched Jessica's slow breathing pull the blankets up and down softly, Sean's phone buzzed. On instinct, he opened the screen to see The App had a new phrase for him, "Jessica McNamara is sleeping."

For the briefest of moments Sean's brow furrowed as he wondered where The App would have gotten his wife's name. But then he shook his head and realized it had probably gotten it from the contacts on his phone. She'd sent him a text before she went to sleep letting him know she loved him and that she was headed to sleep. Something in the back of his mind looked at that word, "sleeping". He could change it to anything. The App wasn't real... but what if it was?

Throwing a bit of caution to the wind, Sean selected the word and changed it to...

What does he type?
