How does he proceed?

He slides past the spider

Chapter 3 by lrocks911 lrocks911

How much time that these two passed in this way, he had no idea. But he knew he was going to have to do something sooner or later. He inhaled deeply and held this breath, and shuffled ever so slightly in a circle, trying to get back onto his path without disturbing the spider.

And inch for inch the spider kept its entire body parallel with his face, but showed no signs of trying to get any closer.

Once he had made it past the spider, he slowly began to back away – without changing the carefully slow pace he was moving at. He had been so paranoid of what it might have done that he cleared a full five feet before exhaling that same breath from earlier.

Slowly regaining his breath, he turns his body sideways so as to use his peripheral vision to keep an eye on the spider, while at the same time looking forwards. Noticing the path was clear of any further spiders, he quickly sets off walking again.

That was a close one. He was going to have to be way more careful from now on, but then again if a tiny spider like this one could swoop in that fast…

He dispelled such thoughts from his head, and tried to focus on just walking. But soon he felt the adrenaline from earlier wearing off, and this left him much more weary and fatigued than before. Where was he going to sleep, on the forest ground?

He would walk until he collapsed then, and if the forest was to be his final resting ground, then so be it.
