He shares a cute picture of Helen

Adam did have one or two sexier pictures of Helen saved to his phone, but he wasn't willing to share them with Bill and two men he'd only just met. Instead, Adam found a cute picture Helen had sent him a while ago of her snuggled up in bed. He hoped this would be enough to satiate their lust.

"She is cute," Nick said as he peered at Adam's phone.

"Very," Bill agreed. "Don't you have any where she's showing a bit more skin?"

"No," Adam said firmly. "We don't really send each other those sorts of photos."

"Fair enough," Bill said, backing down.

After Adam made it clear he wasn't willing to share anything further, Bill and his friends' chat calmed down. They played one more round of pool before last orders were called. Adam took that as his excuse to leave and return home.

Upon leaving the pub, Adam had a dreadful sinking feeling. He had totally forgotten about his game with Helen and had instead just played pool with a workmate and his friends. Surely she would be furious with him and maybe even use the spellbook's powers to punish him? As Adam made the short walk home he came up with his apology speech and hoped Helen would be in a forgiving mood.

As Adam got home, he saw that the hallway light was left on for him but Helen was upstairs. He found her in bed with the bedside lamp on and reading a book. Adam was relieved to see it wasn't the spellbook, but a light novel.

"Sorry about this evening," Adam said, beginning his apology. "I got a little sidetracked with Bill from work. I didn't want to appear rude and since it was obvious I wasn't there with anyone else I thought it'd seem weird if I just went off and spoke to random people. We can definitely try this again another time though." Adam braced himself for Helen to be angry but it was clear she wasn't. She calmly put down her book and smiled.

"It's fine," Helen said with a little sigh. "I got to practice playing the role of someone else for the evening. It's so much easier when you've got access to all their memories. I also heard a lot of what you boys were talking about anyway!" Helen finished with a big grin making Adam begin to feel very nervous. What had she heard? He did drink quite a bit and Bill seemed determined to steer the conversation into the gutter at every opportunity. Adam hadn't said anything too controversial though, at least he hoped so.

"What did you hear?" Adam's voice croaked.

"Nothing too bad, don't worry. I am pleased you didn't share any dirty photos of me even after that Bill pushed you for them!"

Adam laughed, pleased he didn't appear to be in trouble after all. "He can be bad sometimes," Adam said, agreeing with Helen's sentiment.

"Anyway, let's get to sleep. We've both got work tomorrow and I need to get up early!"
