He politely declines

He looks at Eve and Lin. Then at Vanessa.

He takes a moment before he answers.

Miles: I appreciate the offer.

He looks at Eve and Lin with a genuine smile.

Miles: both of you.

He turns back to Vanessa.

Miles: but I'd rather not spend the night running logistics.

Eve raises her eyebrows. Lin smiles into her drink.

Vanessa looks at him with that steady unhurried expression, something moving behind her dark eyes.

Miles: I came out here for you. Not the challenge.

A beat of silence on the balcony.

Eve and Lin exchange a look. Eve pushes off the railing.

Eve: we'll give you two some space.

Lin follows her inside without another word, the balcony door sliding shut behind them.

Vanessa looks at him for a long moment. The party noise below fills the silence between them.

Then she steps forward and takes his face in both hands.

Vanessa: that was the right answer.

She kisses him slowly, unhurried, the way she does everything.

When she pulls back she takes his hand and looks toward the door.

Vanessa: come with me.

He follows her inside
