He goes home

Hunter was torn between chasing after the murderous bitch or returning home. It was really **** at all, he thought. Chasing her would mean changing, and he had just seen that she was quicker at that than he was. Doubtless she was far more adept at the other skills of being were, while he was still just an infant.

On the other hand, her veiled threat chilled him. The thought of her tearing Jess apart made his lips curl in angry fear, and without further hesitation he hailed a cab.

Initially he had thought to take the train home, but with the possible threat from Lucinda he decided to spend the money and take the cab all the way. He texted Jess that he was on his way, and got a happy face emoji in return, followed by a bunch of hearts and kisses. At least she was safe he thought. Although how long that would last, he didn't know. Lucinda might or might not know where he lived, but it wouldn't be hard for her to find him. Dunnigan had certainly had no trouble, and he assumed she was just as smart.

If her implied threat was serious, he needed to find a way to protect Jess. Either protect her, or negate the threat.

Which would mean killing, her realised, baring his teeth in a silent snarl.

Finally, the cab pulled into his driveway and Hunter paid the driver and got out. The door was unlocked and he stepped into the house, calling hello.

"Hunter!" Jess squeaked happily, scampering into his arms, and kissing him with ferocity, digging her fingers into his back. "I missed you so much! We're watching a girly movie! Come join us! Please!"

He let her lead him into the living room and wasn't surprised to see Lyndsey curled up in a chair, smiling happily at him. He was more surprised to see another woman curled up in the corner of the couch, a cup of something in her hand, and a curious smile on her face.

"This is Erica, we work together," Jess explained. "She had a really bad day so I invited her over for a girl's night. I thought you'd be out later."

"Pleased to meet you Erica," he said, extending his hand. She smiled politely as she took it, then gave a sharp gasp and bit her lip, shivering slightly. He saw Jess and Lyndsey smile as they noticed, exchanging quick glances with each other.

"I'll get out of your way," he said, smiling. "You ladies enjoy yourselves."

"No way!" Jess protested. "You go change and come join us! Please Hunter! We'd love it if you joined us! Right girls?"
