He challenges Aria

Miles spots Aria at the drinks table, alone, pouring herself something. Across the room a guy he vaguely recognizes is waiting for her, straightening his collar, looking in her direction.

Miles moves in beside her.

Miles: having a good night?

Aria glances at him sideways.

Aria: was.

Miles: He nods toward her date across the room. that your move for the evening?

Aria: She pours her drink without looking up. yes.

Miles: I just can't believe you're settling this hard just to get some action tonight.

Aria sets the bottle down slowly and looks at him.

Aria: excuse me?

Miles: nothing. Forget it.

Aria: no. Say it again.

Miles: He shrugs casually. I'm just saying. Of all the people here tonight. That's who you picked.

Aria: I'm not settling.

Miles: He looks across the room at her date briefly. okay.

Aria: I mean it. I'm not settling.

Miles: of course not.

Aria: She turns to face him fully. say what you actually mean.

Miles: He looks at her date one more time. I mean look at him Aria. This is your move on prom night?

Aria's eyes narrow.

Aria: you don't know what you're talking about.

Miles: you don't think you could do better?

Aria: I don't need to do better.

Miles: that's not what I said.

Aria: I heard what you said.

Miles: I said you can't. Not that you don't need to.

Aria opens her mouth. Closes it.

Miles nods across the room toward Eve's date, standing in a small group.

Miles: for example. No way you get that guy over there.

Aria follows his eyeline. She looks for a moment.

Aria: I'm not interested in playing games.

Miles: not to mention he came with a really hot girl tonight. She looks pretty locked in.

Aria glances at the girl beside Eve's date briefly then looks back at Miles.

Aria: I don't care.

Miles: good.

He picks up a drink from the table.

Miles: you shouldn't play games you can't win anyway.

He turns and walks back into the party before she can respond.
