Chapter 3
by Mexi-Pino
How do you feel about him?
He's just a friend.
"He's just a friend nothing more." You think. But you can't help but linger on one of your more favorite memories with him. It happened in high school when you two were inseparable. You would wait for him everyday afterschool until Diego would finish football practice and even with his sweat covered face he'd make your heart flutter. But, hell that's how you're supposed to feel when you're with your best friend, right?
One day, it was raining, hard, and as usual you sat in the bleachers watching football practice. Your muscles tensed and relaxed as you heard coach Tang's voice bark drills like a mad dog. Practicing in the rain was pure dedication, you could see the looks of full of concetration on every player's face, moving like a well oiled machine, strong, powerful, and indestructible. While Diego was running back and forth as wide reciever, you sat quietly silently cheering him on. You shivered, staring at raindrops falling, the cold penetrating through you like a wall of ice. You didn't realize it at the time, but you caught the flu. You only found out after Diego's practice ended and you collapsed on the way home. Diego held you close to him as he sprinted towards his house with you in his arms. Eyes half closed, and vision failing you could only smile as Diego's warmth spread from his chest to your entire body. Your heart syncing up with his and with every breath you took you could hear his heart beating in rhythm. *thump *thump *thump Taking you to his room, he quickly checked your temperature trying to figure what was wrong with you. Worried clung to his face like his soaked shirt clinging to his chest. You passed out from the cold. Waking up you found yourself cuddling with your best friend and for a moment you felt confused, confused but happy. To this day you keep that memory to yourself, but you swear you could remember it as clearly as it happened. The cold shakes, the warm sheets, Diego's earthy smell. You pause as you feel yourself blush a crimson red.
