What's next?
Hanging out with Lia's brother
Lia and I laid on her bed for a while, hugging and whispering words of love to each other. We were so at peace in that moment, in each other's embrace.
"Say, want to hang out with my brother?" Lia then said as she rose up.
"Why not. Got any idea on what to do with him?"
"Play games or watch anime. I told you, he's an otaku." Lia giggled. "We could also take him with us while we go for a walk and I show you around, if you'd prefer. With some convincing, I'm sure he'd accept."
I smiled. "Sounds good. We could play a few games and then take a walk. I need to stretch my legs a little."
Lia grabbed my hand and led me in front of David's room. She knocked on the door a few times, waiting for a response.
David slowly opened the door and looked at us, confused. "Y-yes?"
"Hey, Lia told me you liked games, so we were wondering if we could maybe play some with you?" I said, giving him a friendly smile.
"You... You want to play games?" He asked, even more puzzled.
"Yeah. I may not look like it, but I do play games a lot, you know?" I declared, resting my hands on my hips.
"Come on, David, let's play a few rounds of Smash together. It'll be fun." Lia said.
After a moment of hesitation, he fully opened his door and let us inside his room. The walls were full of posters of animes and games, and I could see a TV with a few gaming consoles underneath. A nice laptop was also sitting on a desk alongside a bunch of notebooks and manuals. A large shelf was filled to the brim with manga, and another one next to it with games of all kind.
"Lia wasn't kidding when she told me you were an otaku. It's a really nice room." I commented with a soft giggle.
David blushed. "T-thanks..."
While David was getting his console ready, I looked at the games displayed on the shelf. He really had a lot. Among them I did notice the latest Tekken, and took it out.
"Hey, you play it a lot?" I asked David while showing him the game case.
"F-from time to time. Why?"
Lia giggled when she saw me. "Ah, you and Tekken..." She then turned to David. "Yun loves this game, and she's really good at it."
"R-really?"
"Yeah, wanna play a few rounds after Smash, maybe?" I offered.
"Okay." David simply replied.
The three of us sat in front of the TV and played some rounds of Smash. David was quite good, but all the time spent with Dahl, Lia, and Laura helped me keep up. I could feel that David was nervous, but hoped he'd relax after playing with us more.
We then switched to Tekken, where I was able to show my skills honed by all those matches against Claire. David was good, but no match for me, and I easily won all the time.
"Wow, you're... awesome." David said, a mix of shyness and admiration in his voice.
"Hehe, I played Tekken for years with my sister, I'm an expert now." I proudly announced.
"You have a sister?" He asked.
I realised my mistake and tried to correct myself. "Well, we're not related, but we're so close we consider ourselves as such."
"I see."
"Anyway, Lia wanted to make me visit the neighbourhood, wanna tag along and get some fresh air?" I offered.
He seemed unsure, but Lia chimed in. "Come on, David, it won't be too long."
"Alright..." He said almost dejectedly.
Lia came closer and patted his head. "It'll do you good. You've been letting yourself go since the last time I was here. Yun is a great fitness coach, so why not try fixing that and get you back into shape while we're here?"
David just looked away, not replying. He wasn't enthusiastic, but took his phone and followed us outside. We started to walk around, Lia showing me some spots she used to like hanging out at before college. There was a nice park nearby, with a fountain and lots of flowers. It was a place Dahl definitely liked too, I had no doubt about that. Then we walked past her former high-school, the one David was currently attending. It was a fairly typical school you'd find in most smaller cities.
"How are you finding school, David?" I asked.
"It's, uhh... fairly boring." He timidly admitted.
"David is a smart and dilligent boy, high-school is too easy for him." Lia commented with a giggle, making David blush. "I'm sure you'll enjoy college a lot more, though."
"I hope so." He said.
"What do you want to study?"
"J-Japanese. I'd... like to live in Japan, be a English teacher there."
I smiled. "It's a great goal, I'm sure you can do it."
"T-thanks."
After walking more and seeing some shops Lia and David liked, we stopped at a cafe and ordered some sweets. I offered to pay for David, to show him my good side as his future sister-in-law. Ever since we started hanging out in his room earlier, he seemed somewhat uneasy around me.
We spoke a bit more as we enjoyed some cakes and drinks, Lia and David talking about their respective school lives. I quite liked this afternoon, but we had to get back to their home afterwards.
David and Lia were called to help their parents help with dinner, and despite my pleas, they told me I should rest for today and help tomorrow if I really wanted to. As such, I went back to David's room so I could take a look at his manga collection more closely. While Sherine, Laura, and Dahl taught me a lot, I still had much to learn when it came to manga and anime, and David was clearly an expert.
I saw that his laptop was still on from before we left for our walk, and wanted to check if he had anything important open on it before turning it off. When the screen turned back on, I gave a quick glance at the few tabs opened on his browser, but my eyes widened when I saw the titles of some of them.
They were about skinwalkers...
