Chapter 148 by bobbobbobthethir
What's next?
Handing in the First Seminar Assignment
“How is it going, my young friends?” the old professor says as he ambles into the classroom. “Drop off all papers right here by my side. I know some of you tried to email in copies, but that’s not for me. I’m an old fogey who doesn’t know how to deal with that kind of technology.”
Brooke, sitting alone at the corner of the big table, timidly raises her hand.
“Yes, Brooke?” the professor asks.
“I uh… don’t have a printed copy of my paper, I thought we could turn it in electronically…”
She looks red in the face by the time she’s done speaking, but the professor waves his hand amiably.
“Oh, don’t bother with a hard copy, I saw your email,” he says. “You know, I lied to you earlier—not about being an old fogey, because I clearly am one, but about the technology. The problem is that my hard drive’s full, and it’s a pain to always be making space for all the things you kids send me. But we can make an exception for you, Brooke.” He gives her a friendly smile, and then looks at the rest of you. “Everyone else… papers here!”
There’s a quick rush as the class hands in their papers. A minute later, the professor has a disorderly stack of papers before him, and he leafs through the documents, a sparkle in his eye.
“Very nice, Lucille, I see you’ve gone the path of the paranoiac. Careful where you tread, for they’re always out to get you,” he says with a wink at her. “And Charmaine, yes, just as we discussed, the arc of the moral universe is long and all that… oh, Lisa, I do like this analysis of the commodity fetish, now that’s something that we would do well to talk more about in this class, yes, all kinds of fetishes…”
And so he goes on, and on, and on, until he’s finished with the stack of papers. Then he looks brightly up at the lot of you and says: “Very well! These will be graded and given back to you in short time. Now, the next paper will be due in two weeks, so we’d best get started on that!”
There’s a collective groan amongst the class,
“Another paper? Already?” Annalise complains, followed by a multitude of assent.
“The topic of the next paper,” the professor continues on, ignoring the protests of the students, “is one that I think you lot will enjoy. For the next two weeks, we’ll be trying to answer the all important question: ‘Should college students complete the Freshman 15?’”
Just like that, the class flies into a heated discussion, one that lasts the entire class and lingers in your mind through psychology afterwards, too.
As you walk out of that last class of the day, chatting with Vishal about how fuckin’ hot Sarah is (the strapless dress she wore today truly a sight to behold), you realise that there are a couple things that you could do. Should you head to optional soccer training and prepare for the game tomorrow? Should you head to the library to study some psychology with Vishal? Or should you follow up on that ‘date’ you’ve got with {if ChooseAmy == True} Amy?{endif}{if ChooseAdriana == True} Adriana?{endif}{if ChooseAvril == True} Avril?{endif}
What's next?
