Chapter 4 by Mistermaster1

What is his new life like?

Half-Beastkin

The world of Domus swirled into existence around Rex as the cocoon of non-existence shattered and gave way to a vibrant reality. His soul now nestled in the body of a newborn, crying out to announce its arrival to the world. The room was simple, with wooden floors and walls, and the gentle scent of herbs filled the air. A midwife, a short, stout woman with a kind face, held him in her arms, whispering comforting words in an unfamiliar language.

As his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw his mother, a human woman with a tired but happy smile, and a beastkin with the proud visage of a lion and fur as golden as the sun, looking down at him with love. The room was filled with the soft glow of candles and the crackling of a fireplace. The warmth and love in the room were palpable.

The midwife handed Rex to his mother, who cradled him gently and whispered, "Welcome to the world, my son." Rex felt a strange comfort in her embrace, despite not understanding her words. His father, the beastkin, stepped closer, his large, clawed hand resting on his mother's shoulder. He spoke in a language that Rex's soul seemed to understand, though his newborn mind was still a blank slate.

"This is your mother, Lila, and I am your father, Leo." The lion-like man's voice was deep and comforting.

Rex's eyes grew heavy as he drifted into a peaceful slumber, the whispers of his new family's conversation a gentle lullaby. The warmth of the fireplace and the softness of his mother's arms lulled him into a deep sleep, allowing his soul to rest before the chaos that was to come.

Rex grew, learning the ways of the world of Domus from his loving parents. His village, nestled in the embrace of the Whispering Forest, was a place where humans and beastkin lived in harmony, sharing their cultures and stories. Rex's curiosity about his heritage led him to practice both human and beastkin martial arts, eager to understand the strengths and weaknesses of his dual lineage.

One fateful evening, a day after he turned 10 years old, as the moon hung low in the velvet sky, casting its ethereal glow over the village, Rex felt an odd sensation stirring within him. It was as if his soul was itching for something more, yearning for the excitement and danger that his new world had yet to provide. His curiosity piqued, Rex decided to sneak out of his warm bed and into the quiet night.

The cool breeze danced across his skin, raising goosebumps as he stepped into the moonlit clearing just outside the village. The whispers of the forest seemed to beckon him deeper, promising secrets and adventures beyond his wildest dreams. He followed the call, his bare feet silent on the soft moss covering the forest floor.

Suddenly, the air grew thick with a charge of energy, and the shadows grew restless. The trees whispered louder, their voices blending into a symphony of anticipation. Above, the moon's glow grew brighter, as if it too knew something momentous was about to happen. The voice of the God of Rebirth, GoR, echoed through his mind. "Ah, it seems your soul has awakened. Finally itching for a taste of chaos huh?"

Before Rex could even grasp the situation, his enhanced senses, a gift from his beastkin heritage, picked up the faintest rustle of leaves and the scent of something foreign—something that didn't belong in the familiar embrace of the Whispering Forest. His heart raced as he went to hide as the unmistakable outline of a figure emerged from the foliage.

It was a girl ninja, a kunoichi according to your mother, who looked to be about four years older then Rex was currently, that emerged from the foliage. Her skin was porcelain white, contrasting sharply with the deep blue of her outfit. Her eyes were a piercing blue, almost glowing in the moonlight. Her figure was tightly wrapped in a uniform that clung to her like a second skin, revealing the slight curves of a young woman that Rex’s eyes hadn’t quite learned to appreciate yet, but he knew that she was beautiful. Her long brown hair flowed behind her in a ponytail.

Her movements were silent and graceful, a stark contrast to the clumsiness of his own early attempts at stealth. She was a ghost in the night, a silent predator that Rex felt both drawn to and afraid of. The young kunoichi moved with purpose, her gaze sharp and searching. It was clear she wasn’t from their village or even their continent. The whispers of the forest grew more urgent, as if they were trying to warn him of the danger she posed. Rex’s heart thundered in his chest as he watched her, his hand instinctively reaching for the wooden sword he brought with him.

What should Rex do?
