Chapter 17 by GreenBean GreenBean

She knows, what does she do?

Grasp the cane

Looking beside the chair, she saw her aunt's old cane, which had supported her weakening frame for so many years. She still had the cocktail in one had. She had a chance. Maybe.
The cane had a silver top to it. Making it both weighty and perhaps silver's purity would make it more effective on the beast.

The cold of the metal reflected the cold hate she felt toward the damnable beast as she brushed the old cane against her face, conjuring memories of her aunt to feed the fury growing in her.

Now steeled to her action, Jessica stood. Lit the cocktail on the first try, and after a perhaps too loud inhale, turned into the beast's room. The beast was just whirling to face her, as she threw the bottle at it's face.
Unfortunately her aim was off.

Fortunately, her aim wasn't that far off. The glass shattered on its chest, splashing blazing liquid across its torso. The beast roared in pain, rearing up, tearing at it's own chest, beating at the flaming.

Jessica let out her battle cry, feeble and broken as it was, it was what she needed to push forward. Holding the cane in both hands, she slammed blow after blow on the burning beast, which did little to protect itself as the flames pre-occupied it.
Finally with a shutter, the beast fell backward. Apparently dead.
Jessica fell to her knees. The beast's blood burned on her skin. Her breath wouldn't slacken. Her fury focused and homed like an edge.
She didn't even notice dawn's arrival as she watched the beast bleed out.

"Oh hunter, we didn't know you were here" spoke a fearful women's voice.
Jessica turned and gave her a mad smile. She wanted to protest, but she knew the woman was right. She was now a hunter.

Good(ish?) ending
