Grabbed it

My hand just made contact with it as it slipped of the railing. I grabbed it and finished crawling up the stairs.

That was waaay too close to falling all the way down.

_A: _Oh what a swizz, he caught it.

_D: _Aren't you supposed to be rooting for him?

_A: _Ummmm, adversity is character-building.

I looked down between the stairs again.

"Did you just hear something?"

"You mean like the sound of a men's dress shoe scraping on concrete?"

"Now that you mention it, yes. EXACTLY that sound."

I sat on the top step to try and catch my breath.

I recognised the voice from earlier

_A: _Oh no! Someone's coming down the stairs!

_D: _And not just anybody either.

ABOVE: "Hurry along now!"

BELOW: "Lead on... wait... that sounds like Ms Faversham coming this way.

"You mean the C.E.O.'S crazy-cat-lady sister? The Ex-head mistress of a school?"

"I see her reputation precedes her."

I stood at the top of the flight of stairs and ran closer to the closed door ahead of me.

Good thing I had a hold of my shirt this time! But I won't have time to get it on before she gets here! I'll start buttoning it now at least.

_D: _I say he should duck through this door to escape.

_A: _Without checking first?!! He's stark naked!
