James sat with Aurora at his computer. Practicing together the next set of words for her had ended up being a great motivator. Between that and the dictionary in front of her, she'd made it to the M section already. He heard the door, and his sister's voice.
"Jamie, we're here!"
Wait, we? What the fuck! He muttered several curse words, and heard a smack sound from the living room. Footsteps. He lifted the bed slightly, and Aurora hurried to crawl under. Her entire body flashed with orange, her eyes wide.
Terri walked in just after he set the bed down. Please, dear God don't let her find out. Terri had a hand on her hip. "Something you need to tell me, James?"
Shit. Maybe she was just suspicious. If he played it cool, she might give up on it. "Not that I can think of, are you okay mom?"
She gestured with her head at the open language learning materials. "Really? Why were you bent down at your bed?"
"I...might have some porn I don't want you seeing."
She puckered her lips, in that unconvinced, sarcastic, scolding way only a mother could. "While brushing up on English?"
"...yes." Fuck.
He didn't have the time to stop her from laying on her belly and looking under his bed. She leapt into the air at the blue alien, flickering with red and orange. "Holymotheroffuck!"
A bright orange light shine out from under the bed. Sally put a hand on their mother's shoulder. "Mom, try to not scream I totally get it."
"You fucking knew?!", Terri shrieked.
James tried to explain as he lifted the bed. "By accident mom! She found out...kinda like you did."
Terri froze at the alien voice that reached through the room as Aurora crawled out. "Mmahm...isz no hurt Jamesz?"
Her body flickered blue. James helped her out, confirming her question. "Right. Mom is the person Sally and I came from."
Terri noticed the bandages on the alien woman's chest. "Shuh...she's your...the fruh...you meant her!"
James nodded, "Yes, mom, she's my friend who got burned. Please, keep it down there's already been two people by asking about her."
Terri took a moment to breathe before nodding. "Right...why is she here?"
