Good friends, good company.

Dinner is organised for a little earlier, around six, so Yui tells me she will come straight from her school after work and meet me there. I’m probably about a quarter hour early having retrieved my car from where I’d met Aor the other day. I’d parked it in a multi-storey garage so the parking fees are pretty steep for two days. I have a little chuckle to myself when I put that down as my first business expense seeing as it was parking to met Aor to deliver the business plan demonstration to her. The Aussie Business Number had come back to me today so I’d established a business bank account in the AORsome Spirit Importers name and transferred some start-up capital in.

Holly greeted me by herself at the door, giving me a full opened lipped kiss, slipping her tongue inside my mouth before breaking off. She had on a full-length olive-green maxi dress which I thought looked very pretty on her. I was more used to seeing her in shirt little mini dresses if anything so it made a nice surprise to see her so demure.

“Hey come on in. Jess is just getting ready, she’s taking forever but shouldn’t be too much longer,” Holly says as she guides me inside and sits me down on the couch. “Can I get you a beer?”

“Sure, that would be great,” I tell her.

Holly heads off to the fridge and I have a chance to take in the amazing smells coming from the kitchen. The smell of roasting chicken and herbs delights my nose and I am almost instantly ravishingly hungry. I hope Yui doesn’t take too long to get here.

Punctuality and organisational skills are somethings that come naturally to Yui and she arrives at almost precisely 6 pm on the dot. “Hey everyone,” she says coming through the door and giving Holly a big hug on the way in. She scratches the back of my neck playfully as she leans over the back of the couch to kiss me hello. Yui heads into the kitchen to see if she can do anything to help Holly get ready for dinner as the two of them start talking like old friends.

The two of them begin plating up and I am just making my way to the dining table when Jessica comes out of the girl’s bedroom and makes a jaw-dropping entrance. Jess has redyed her hair a deep red colour from her original purple that’s curled into loose flowing ringlets. She is dressed in a figure-hugging black minidress that would be small for even Holly, her legs in sheer black stockings held up by a garter belt. Her eyes are done in a heavy dark smoky eyeshadow. “Well don’t everyone just stare!” Jessica tells us off when no one knows what to say. “I thought Holly and I would swap styles for a change.

“Eee! You did it!” Holly squeals and runs over to hug her fiancé.

“Hey watch the hair and make-up! This shit takes me forever,” Jess tells Holly when’s she’s nearly bowled over by her.

Yui and I quickly pick our jaws up off the floor and come over to hug Jessica hello. Both of us agreeing with how amazing she looks.

Over a very nice dinner Holly cooked we talk about a bunch of things until the topic finally moves around to the reason Jessica and Holly asked Yui and I to come over.

“Now tell me about this news you’ve been keeping secret. What was said at the management meeting the other day,” I ask Jessica as our plates are almost finished.

Jessica explains for Yui benefit as well, “Well on Monday night, while you and Holly were working at The Loft, I was in a management meeting with the owner and they had some news that affects all of us.”

“Ok, what is it?” I ask.

“They have decided to put The Loft up for sale and are looking for interested buyers,” Jessica tells us.

“So, were potentially going to be out of a job?” While this news isn’t devastating for me, I’m not that long away from graduating and would be looking to change into a professional job in my field soon anyway. For Jessica and Holly planning a wedding soon, this sort of new would be extremely stressing.

“Not necessarily. The reason we asked you over is Holly and I have been talking and we were thinking about doing a management buy out and taking over The Loft ourselves. You’re in that sort of business type classes at uni, we were wondering if you think it’s a good idea and how we’d go about it?” Jessica tells me and waits to hear what I have to say.

“Wow! That’s huge,” I say, thinking for a moment, “I think you two would be fantastic owners, you practically run the place as it is now, no one else knows the business like you two. I’ve never seen the books but I’m certain it’s making a great profit. It all really depends on how much they are asking for it and if that matches an acceptable rate of return on investment on your behalf. Then you would have to look at taking on some kind of loan I'm guessing. I can help you look into all this if you like.”

Holly looks incredibly happy at my positive attitude to their news, “see, I told you he was a business nerd!”

“Thank you! We’d be extremely grateful for all your help and maybe you’d like to come on as one of our managers and help run the place too?” Jessica is likewise relieved.

“I wouldn’t be super sure of what my time commitment could likely be, I’ve actually just started a business of my own, but I would certainly think about it when the time comes,” I say as I quickly explain to Holly and Jess how I’ve started Aor’s rum business myself, leaving out catching her husband cheating and then sleeping with Aor myself.

“It seems congratulations are in order all round,” Yui says, “if only we had some more of the rum to toast the occasion with.”

“And I’d be happy to sell it to you all for... cost plus twenty percent,” I say.

Holly and Jessica both laugh before Jessica comes back, “that’s it! No free drinks ever in our bar, ever!”

“Alright, alright, alright, cost it is then!”

Holly fetches some shot glasses and a pour us a round of tequila each to celebrate. The fiery liquid goes down hot before she pours us all another.

Our business talks complete the four of us get up. Holly and Jess start to collect the plates to take to the kitchen for washing up. Jess tells Yui to put something on TV to watch and they will be joining us as soon as they are done cleaning up. I stick in the kitchen section of their apartment to help with the cleaning up while Yui grabs the remote and turns on the TV.
