It took a while, but eventually she found the spot in the grassy field where she and Scherie had laid down earlier. A few moments later, she stumbled across her waterskin and picked it up, inwardly chastising herself for leaving it behind.
As Elena returned, she heard the rustle of grass from behind her, and whirled around with her blue eyes wide. In the darkness, she could only see the rough outlines of small figures, and instinctively she drew her dagger.
"It's two on one, girlie, don't try anything," a high-pitched squeak came from one of the figures. It moved closer, and Elena made out the tiny body of a goblin, holding a dagger. Despite their diminutive stature, she knew that goblins weren't necessarily pushovers in a fight, and nervousness began to boil in her stomach.
"What do you want?" Elena asked, not lowering her dagger as another goblin emerged from the gloom holding a crossbow.
A vicious smile seemed to spread across the leader's face. "Anything valuable you've got, girlie. And that dagger, too - I'd quite like another one."
Elena considered her options: from the looks of it, she could either hand over all the coin she had and the dagger, leaving her defenseless; she could try to run; or she could try and fight her way out. Two on one wasn't great odds, but maybe she stood a chance? Frantically, she searched for a fourth option ...
"Come on, girlie, give us what you got," the second goblin said.
