Goblin Mating Practices

There are many interesting aspects to goblin mating. Perhaps the single most important to other species was the loss of most goblin females. Even before the ability to mate with any intelligent species of similar type, only about one in five goblins were born female. This percentage was found to be much lower in every species the goblins mated with. As a result, the percentage of goblin females in the total population dropped rapidly to the current level of about one in two hundred and fifty. This meant that mating other species shifted from a pleasurable novelty to the primary means of propagating the species. As such, the capture and use of other species' females became a biological imperative.

Another aspect of the breeding is that goblins always breed true. No mating with a goblin will yield a member of the other parent species or a half-breed. This means that new breeders can only be obtained through capture or a breeding program. Breeding programs require keeping the best males as studs and a long wait time. Since species bred with goblins have only a one month pregnancy and a baby goblin reaches maturity in six weeks, the seven to twelve month pregnancy and twelve to thirty YEARS to reach maturity feels like forever to a goblin. The goblin's natural lifespan is about fifty years, but due to their violent nature, it is a rare goblin that lives out his natural life.

Regardless of the species mated with, goblin litters range from six to ten. Again owing to their violent lifestyle, with each other as well as other species, large litters are required just to maintain equilibrium, let alone increase the population. Also, goblins are a tribal species, with utmost loyalty owed to the family first. Any other organizational group ranks a poor second. This of course means that every goblin wants to belong to the largest possible family, creating a social imperative equal to that of biology.

Completing the trifecta, goblins consider mating, with or without pregnancy in mind, to be life's ultimate pleasure, to be enjoyed as often as possible. This tends to keep many of their slaves constantly pregnant. The only reason for contraception is to avoid getting a slave pregnant when it would interfere with other tasks, as is the case with riding ponies. *(It should be noted that all goblin slave references in human terms has come through humans using common earth terms to describe goblin phenomena.)This is especially true of the pony girls. While they are occasionally impregnated during their tenure, most pony girls are bred while still able at the end of their usefulness as mounts. This is both to avoid losing them for a period of time and due to the goblin belief in racial memory and the ability to pass learned experience as well as biological aptitude from mother to offspring.
