Chapter 17 by trollsmithtroll trollsmithtroll

Do you join Petros or the main party?

Go with the main party

You join the main party in preparing to enter the mansion. You quickly survey your troops, taking into account their number and condition. Only 7 of you left, including you...8 if you count Petros in the garden. Several of your men have visible injuries. With a wince, you remember the arrow wound in your own thigh.

"Form two lines behind me," you tell the 6 with you. "We're going in through the back entrance to the garden. I'll take point."

Quickly, you and your men slip in the house after destroying the relatively flimsy lock on the mansion's back door. You are all quiet and cautious, but there there is a built-up energy in the air—like you are all just waiting to spring into action.

The entire first floor seems to be empty. It is unnaturally quiet, a mansion this size ought to have a score of inhabitants; in addition to the wealthy owner and his family there should be attendants and servants and perhaps as many as a dozen slaves. The occupants of the home are either out, or are aware of your presence and hiding.

After taking the wide marble steps to the second floor, you make your way to what seems to be the master bedroom—it has the largest and most ornate doors on the entire floor.

Suddenly two men jump around the corner and out at you, wielding daggers in their hands. Almost before you can react, two of your spearmen rush forward and impale the charging men on their long weapons. Their bodies slide to the ground. You push one's body with your foot, flipping him on his back so you can see the man's face.

"They're clearly just slaves sir. Likely more people in this bedroom," one of your soldiers tells you quietly.

At your nod, your men rush at the master bedroom and break down its doors.

Who is in the room?
