Chapter 5

What do you do?
Go up the stairs
The glass doors squeaked slightly as the larger figure pulled it open. The desire to avoid a conflict made your decision for you. You dashed up the stairs two at a time. You paused at the landing where they stairs turned back on themselves halfway between the floors.
?I tell you Jimmy,? a deep voice called out from the doorway to the outside of the building, ?Pat still here.? The deep voice belonged to Armstrong ?Moose? Wilson. Moose stood over six and half feet tall. He was well over three hundred pounds. It was all muscle, and Moose wasn?t afraid to use it.
?And just how do you know that?? Jimmy asked. Despite his size and strength, Moose was not a threat, at least not by himself. You would never count Moose as one of your friends, but you really didn?t consider him to be an enemy either. James Coralini, on the other hand, was bad news. From the first day on campus you were sure he was someone you wanted no part of. Although you had a couple inches and more than ten pounds on him, you didn?t want to confront him. Jimmy had a reputation for fighting dirty. Besides, he had Moose to do his fighting for him.
?Tabby tell me.? Moose answered. You winced. Tabitha Loraine was one of the girls in your history class. She had been one of the first to finish and leave. She was one hot bitch. She had a body to die for. Her 5?6? frame sported a 36-24-36 figure. She wore jeans that seemed to be painted on. They seemed ready to split with every sway of her hips as she walked. She wore an equally tight t-shirt. The way it was stretched across her D-cups left no doubt that she wore no bra underneath. Those puppies drew many an eye as they not only defied gravity, but showed Tabitha?s erect nipples. Tabby?s shoulder-length, jet black hair framed a pair of expressive brown eyes.
However, while Tabby was indeed hot, the emphasis was on bitch. Those curves had a way of drawing every eye around. However, it was attention that Tabitha did not seem to want. She made it clear she did not want it with a piercing stare. When those brown eyes narrowed, few men could withstand more than a few seconds of that withering gaze. Those that could but did not heed that warning soon found Tabby had more direct and painful way of driving the point home.
While you had not yet suffered the ignominy having Tabby land her foot squarely in your groin, she made it clear that she did not like you. You tried to avoid her, but being in the same history class had made that impossible. The fact that Professor Meredith had paired the two of you up for a couple reports only made the situation worse. You hadn?t helped your cause by insisting that Tabby do her share of the project. You couldn?t help thinking that she had finally decided to act on her displeasure and that act took the form of Jimmy and Moose.
You sprinted up the stairs in an attempt to avoid the confrontation. You paused as you reached the second floor. In front of you, you saw a set of windows that gave you a good view of the campus. To your left the stairs continued up. You knew that they led to College of Humanities administrative offices and teachers cubicles. On the other side of the stairs was a door that led to a large lecture hall like the one you had just left. A corridor headed off to the right. It led to a series doors. Behind each was a laboratory. Finally, to your right was a corridor that led to smaller classrooms.
?He must have gone up.? Jimmy said. Moments later you heard footsteps on the stairs. They were joined by the heavy tread of Moose. They were moving at a slow but steady pace. It wouldn?t be long before they were where you stood. If you wanted to continue to avoid them, you had to make your move now.
Which way do you go?
