Chapter 3 by Cantalope Cantalope

Follow Daisy? Go to the oak and try to get to the bottom of this?

Go to the oak.

Shaking her head at Daisy, who had snuggled up closely with Maple, Aster flew off in the direction of the oak. When she arrived she thought a war had started, the fairies were swirling around the tree frantically and dodging projectiles launched by the treemen. Upon closer inspection she realized the treemen were lightly tossing acorns at the swarm, mostly to try and disperse it. It was somewhat alarming, seeing so many of her sisters grouped together like this, it must have terrified the treemen when they awoke.

Her sisters seemed to be playfully jeering and taunting the confused treemen. Normally this would have gone the other way, the treemen wolf-whistling and catcalling at some passing fairy. Was this some kind of payback? Why hadn't Aster been told?! This was hilarious!

Joining her sisters in the flurried rainbow of color, she called out jibes to the little men clinging to the bark. Treemen were a little larger than fairies, with green skin that darkened to brown the older they got. Some of the oldest were completely grey and bore long, scraggly white beards. Aster had never thought of them as anything but perverted old men but as she looked she started noticing younger, clean-shaven individuals spread out across the branches. Surprised, she alighted on a leaf to examine one of the young treemen. He almost fell off in shock, apprehensively clinging to an acorn as the fairy approached.

He was...handsome. Attractive even. His skin was a light, vibrant green, and his curly hair resembled fresh moss: he couldn't have been much beyond boyhood. She sashayed closer, flaunting her long legs and emphasizing the sway of her hips, and the fear in his eyes was replaced by a cautious interest.

"Hi." She said in the most seductive way she knew how.

"H-hi" He stuttered quaveringly. Clearing his throat he tried again, several octaves lower, "Hi."

"I'm Aster. What's your name?"

"B-b...(ahem) Bowen, milady."

She giggled at his reaction, he was adorable. Despite their history with the treemen, this was fun. Some of her sisters were following her example and finding a young treemen but they were quickly all taken and any fairies who wanted to join the fun had to double up or start picking older and older variants.

Several tried to land on Asters branch, smiling coyly at the overwhelmed young man, but she snapped her wings open and sent them tumbling back into the air. He was hers dammit.

Wait. Hers?

Something's not right...
