Go to another Check-up

Janice went to back to Zinthrop's building for her third check-up. She was a little worried, she had used two vials of serum without permission and had changed quite drastically, would he know something was going on. Either way, she took a deep breath and walked inside, ringing the bell on the reception desk. It didn't take long for Zinthrop to walk through the door to the lab.

'Hello again Ms. Starlin.' Zinthrop greeted, although he definitely sounded concerned.

'Hello doctor.' Janice responded, with a wide smile, she didn't want to give anything away, his concern had to mean he had found out she was stealing the serum, and she was terrified.

'Please, come in and take a seat.' He said plainly as he led her through the lab door and gestured to the stool again. She sat on it and smiled at him, trying to hide her fear. Zinthrop stood in front of her again and started looking at her face, gently rubbing and pulling on it to examined her skin.

'This is very interesting.' Zinthrop stated, concern throughout his voice, 'Based on both your progress yesterday and today, I think there must be something wrong with the serum.' Janice turned to look at him.

'What's wrong?' Janice asked, fear in her voice as she raised her hands to her face and started feeling it, 'Am I not getting younger?'

'No, no, that's not the problem at all.' Zinthrop explained, 'What I am worried about is the drastic change in your skin, it appears to have tightened and smoothed out to a remarkable degree.'

'So? Isn't that wonderful, isn't that exactly what we wanted from this experiment?'

'These changes may sound good, but remember, you're the first human that this serum has been tested on. And to me, these changes are unprecedented, which is worrying. I will start work on adjusting the formula so that this does not happen in the future.'

'I don't see what is wrong. Have you designed a way to turn it into a pill?' Janice asked. Zinthrop just stood in front of her, thinking for a moment.

'I think I have,' Zinthrop replied hesitantly, 'But, I refuse to test the pills using this serum, it is far too dangerous. Do you understand?' This time it was Janice who paused to think, she took a breath.

'Yes doctor, I understand.' Janice replied professionally. She did not want to wait, everything was ready; she could bring it in tomorrow and they could start selling it a couple days later. She especially did not see his need for concern, Janice had never felt better, this serum that he suddenly seemed to despise was a dream come true for her, and soon for many other women in the world. But, there was no point in arguing, it was his design and losing his support would also lose her the serum, 'We will not continue until you feel the product is ready. See you tomorrow.'

'See you then.' Zinthrop said, shaking Janice's hand as she stood up. She then left the lab. She didn't know it, but as soon as she turned her back on him, his face became incredibly stern and he shook his head.
