You thought maybe the Library would be for the use of the students, but it's clear as soon as you enter that it's for the faculty only. There are racks and racks of books, of course, but they're behind a glass divider.
On this side of the divider are a cluster of leather couches and side tables.
You walk into the library, and you're immediately confronted by a tall man in a tweed suit. Mister Franklin...
“Do you have a permission slip, young lady?” he demands, advancing on you. Before you can even answer, he smiles grimly. “No, of course you don't. You're the new girl, Janet. Janet, the Library is off-limits, unless you have a permission slip, or you're on work study during your assigned hours. I happen to know you're not scheduled for work here yet. Do you have a permission slip?”
