Go through the park

Despite wanting to face the empty house quickly you decide to take the route through the park, you head on in walking the way you normally would with your son in tow you reach the end of the path which splits the left hand fork takes you to the recreation area and the shortest route home, although sometimes it would take forever as your son insisted on trying out every piece of equipment in the play area. The right hand route takes you further into the park into a dark wooded area, you've overheard the other moms' talking about it, how it's an area best avoided unless you knew your way around it.
