Go sit with Beth

Jack enters the cafeteria and walks towards the line to get some food. He walks back into the swarm of people he didn't know looking for a shred of familiarity. He see's his sister, again sitting alone. He starts walking towards her, he see's a guy walk up to her. He puts his hand flat on the table and leans over a bit, as if trying to impose himself on her. He starts talking to her and Beth's face doesn't seem to be saying 'This is an interaction I'm enjoying, no please carry on talking about yourself, I'm really enjoying this.'

Jack didn't want to make any enemies at this school, let alone on the second day, he was cautious to approach in a way that would offend the guy talking to Beth. He walks up to where Beth is sitting and stands on her side of the table, he didn't want to be standing next to this guy.

"Hey Beth, can i sit down?" he asked, looking at Beth, then looking at the guy standing across from her, then back at Beth.

"Yeah of course," she said, there was a tone of relief in her voice.

Jack sits down at looks at the guy standing in front of him, he looks confused.

"Um who's this?," asked the random guy

"My brother, Jack," said Beth, trying to be as short as possible.

"Hm," he said as he turned around and walked away.

"My god, thank you so much, " she said in relief as she put her forehead on Jacks shoulder.

"Who was that guy anyway?"

"I don't even know, he just came up to me and starting talking about how he was building a boat? Like what the hell is that about." she said picking up her head from his shoulder.

"What you weren't impressed by his boat building skills?" he said.

"No yeah of course I was, my whole life I've just dreamed of a guy who can build boat." she said sarcastically

"So still haven't made any friends? he asked

"There are one or girls who have said hi to me, but I don't really have a problem sitting by myself." she said

They talked for the rest of lunch until the bell rang, Jack was glad the somewhat awkward encounter this morning had dissolved.
