Chapter 2 by TheSpectator TheSpectator

Who do you choose?

Glimmer Veil | Showgirl looking for love.

Glimmer wakes up early on Monday morning, the sun’s rays through her window as her morning computer chimes in a report after gently waking her from a whole night’s rest. She wakes up, not exactly wanting to. The weekend was busy, and she only had Sunday to herself… She sighed and shook her head, wiping her face with her palms.

The room’s computer stopped chiming, but a voice came out with the morning report. Its voice was pitched like a human’s but had no emotion or soul.

“Good morning, Glimmer!” it began, coming from all directions. “It’s 06:00 in Neon Shroud! Here’s your morning brief. Temperatures will struggle to reach 2 °C with a brisk wind, making it feel like -3 °C. Snow is expected, likely to mix with the smog, creating visually striking and potentially hazardous environments. Visibility might decrease, so plan your route accordingly!”

Glimmer sat in bed, her blue eyes downcast as she listened. How many fucking times did she have to set it to Fahrenheit? She knew anything below ZERO was below freezing, but she was too tired to do the math in her head in the mornings...

In front of her, her fish tank bubbled as the creatures inside stirred and the automatic feeder sprinkled in pellets. The computer continued.

“Traffic update. Aerial traffic is every due to the Corporate Summit. Drones and personal flyers are advised to use alternative routes or delay travel by 2 hours to avoid congestion around the Central Nexus,” Glimmer flicked her eyes to the room’s windows as she heard the muffled noise of traffic outside. The city, in a strange way, looked beautiful, she supposed. She’d seen this view so many times it started to lose its vista.

“Cyber Security Alert! A new wave of data breaches has hit the lower sections. Update your cyber defenses and consider temporarily disconnecting from the Net for sensitive operations,” Glimmer looked at her reflection. She didn’t have anything to hide… So it didn’t matter.

“Cultural Event! The Neon Light Festival begins tonight. Expect increased activity around the main entrainment districts, including your employment, Pink Heat.”

Glimmer didn’t forget about that. It’s why she was feeling anxious today. The increased traffic in her workplace was going to make the shift even longer. All the new possible clients… All the people that’s seen her and more to leer and lust over her. She didn’t mind it, but… Before it could continue with corporate news, Glimmer turned to the ceiling. “Shut up!”

She went to the bathroom and looked at her reflection. She was picture-perfect, even just out of bed. Above, the computer continued. Now fixated on a new subject. “Your shift is 08:00-to 20:00. You have five clients today; the first is at 10:00,” Glimmer’s confidence flattered.

“Computer… who are they? Did Pink Heat send me a list of the clientele?” This was the first time Glimmer wanted it to keep talking that morning, and now that it wasn’t, it irritated her.

There’s a small hiss from the speakers as the computer replies in the same calm, robotic voice.

“At 10:00, Mr. Blank will be checking in for an hour session,” the computer confirms. There’s no reaction from Glimmer. Mr. Blank was… an uptight man in his late 40s, 6’2, muscular, with dark hair and eyes, and…generous below the belt. There’d be a lot of massaging, and maybe he’d fall asleep before she even had a reason to undress.

The computer continued. “At 13:00, Grayler has his appointment with you,” Glimmer still did not react. He was strange. There was never small talk, just straight sex. No cigarettes, drinks, just cum and go. He was definitely well-endowed, too… Most of her clients were, so that wasn’t much to sing about. However, he was exceptionally skilled with his tongue.

“At 16:00, Janet will be your third visitor,” the computer said, adding no more detail. Glimmer didn’t need any more detail… Janet was a wild card who enjoyed getting dominated by her fellow sex, pushed her limits, liked to be blindfolded, and tied mid-way through their session.

“Your final visitor is at 18:00 for 2 hours… There are no previous listings or notes about this client other than being male,” the computer says, and all that comes out is static for a few moments.

Glimmer looks at herself. “New client?”

No answer. “I said, NEW CLIENT?”

“Yes. His name JOHN DOE," it said his name without any kind of attempt at sound human, which again irritated Glimmer.

Glimmer scoffs. “John Doe? Of course, he wouldn’t list his name. Probably some small-cocked son of a bitch embarrassed he has to hire some FUCKING ESCORT BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS HIM!" she throws the remote controller for the lights in the apartment to the tile wall, cracking the tile and breaking the remote. “Not that I’m much better,” she whispers, moving so the robotic vacuum can roll over and take care of the mess.

“Sorry, Jeff,” she muses, watching the bot suck up the debris… “I have a job to get, though.”

How does Glimmer get to work?
