Chapter 5
by The Other Guy
What do you do?
Give in to the pull
You think that is the right thing to do. You rationalise that this thing tests magic therefore letting it pull is the right thing to do. Suddenly the ball gets blindingly bright before puttering out. The whole thing seems to have lasted less than a second but looking around everyone is dead silent.
“One hundred and twelve.” The headmaster say with a huge grin on his face. The room is still silent until Cerberus house explodes into a thunderous applause.
“What?” You feel like you have been saying that a lot today.
“Sorry we do have a lot of people to get through.” The headmaster say shuffling you off the stage. “We’ll talk after this while the others go through the orientations lectures, personal I think they are really boring anyway.”
You leave the stage feeling, well you don’t know what to be feeling. You look at the Cerberus house students all still cheering and now clapping you on the back as you pass them. You aren’t entirely sure you should be sitting with them now, since you’re an Amarok, whatever that is.
You sit back in you old seat at the edge of the house members. Amber eyes is looking at you way more intensely than she had been previously. The rest of the house members seemed to trying to move closer to you without actively rushing you, the few near amber eyes backed off when she started growling at them.
“Students, students please calm down.” The headmasters voice booms out shutting down all the excited chatting among all the houses. He goes back to calling out students. When he reaches amber eyes she seems almost opposed to leaving him. She goes for one more sniff before walking up.
She gets a respectable eighty-two and give you a second shot at her name, Aimil Ciar. Her eyes never leaving him the entire time. The headmaster leans down to whisper in her ear. Her gaze falters for a moment but returns quickly.
There are a few more students called up but no spectacular scores. Admitted your score kinda ruined everyone’s perspective. Once everyone had finished the headmaster gave another speech that you barely listened to for two reasons, one you were still reeling from your score, two your house was not your house, and lastly, amber eyes had moved closer and her hand was now touching your outer thigh.
The students all stood as one leaving you and Aimil Ciar sitting alone, a few others around you gave you both knowing looks as you stood awkwardly shifting your hips slightly.
Everyone sat back down and then Alister appeared ushering Cerberus house out the door. You didn’t move and everyone that passed you tried to say hello, even those who weren’t part of your house. Aimil stayed by your side until most Cerberus had left. She gave you a mournful look then stood and walked away. She smelled you again before walking off.
Yeah, was still weird to you but after being so close to her for that long. Well she was hot, that is really all you knew about her, oh and she is a werewolf from Scotland, that too.
Once everyone had cleared out all that was left was the headmaster and two other older people, you assumed they were lectures. “Please come with us.” The headmaster had the same oddly jovial tone to it. You follow them as they leave through a side door into a smaller corridor. The walk is very short, in fact they stop at the first door.
“We can do magic, why waste time with walking.” The headmaster grins at you and opens the door. The three elders walk inside and you follow behind.
The office is larger than the common room of Cerberus house. There is one huge desk in the centre of the room, the rest taken up by bookshelves, almost scientific equipment and to one side an actual bar.
The headmaster walked over to his desk and took a seat behind it. The other teachers took position around the room, one sitting the other leaning against a wall.
“Care for a smoke? Drink?” The headmaster asked reaching up over the brim of his hat and pulling at the draws in top. You honestly didn’t think those draws were real but he pulled one out took out a pair of glasses and a bottle of some liquid.
“N-no thank you?” You really haven’t got any idea what is going on.
“Are you sure it’s really very good.” The headmaster pours two glasses and puts the bottle back into his hat.
“Would you stop offering the students ****.” The teacher leaning against the wall says with utter expiration. You honesty don’t know if they’re a man or woman, their skin is so leathery and their clothing to plain it gives no hints.
“Oh you’re just upset that we’ll have to wake her up.” The teacher sitting says, this one you know is female. Her robe has a slit in it and sitting down made her robe slip open showing off her thighs.
The leaning teacher grumbles but doesn’t object.
“Stop it you two you’re making our guest nervous.” The headmaster takes a drink and pushes the glass towards you.
As much as the **** could help you relax, you really don’t think that is a good idea. You shake your head, and he shrugs before downing the other glass. This is a weird school.
“Alright go grab her.” The headmaster looks at the teacher leaning against the wall who rolled her eyes. You watch her walk to one of the numerous glass cases and withdraw a black sphere. It was about the same size as the ball that scored everyone. The teacher was obviously not a fan of the thing, holding it away from herself slightly, not enough for her to be consciously holding it at arms-length just a subconscious dislike of the thing.
The teacher hands the sphere to the headmaster who throws it from on hand to the other very casually. “Please don’t juggle her, you know she hates that.” The female teacher says leaning back in her chair.
“Oh she doesn’t mind do you?” The sphere starts to glow in the headmasters hand then floats out of it. It slowly over the desk towards you. It is disconcerting to have a black sphere float towards you and you back away slightly. Once it reaches the edge it stops.
“Hey kid my eyes are up here.” The sphere speaks in a feminine voice and your eyes jump up to where a head would be. And now is. Sitting on the desk is a woman with a huge grin on her face, she looked to be in her mid-thirties. She appeared out of no where and was staring at you with bemusement. “Did someone throw me?” She looked at the others.
“Of course not.” The headmaster says standing up and walking around the desk. “Show her your pin.”
It takes a moment for you to pick up what he was talking about before grabbing your pin and hold it up.
“You only ever wake me up for work.” The woman sighs and gets off the desk standing before you. You suddenly notice that is not wearing anything.
“Put some clothes on.” The unidentified teacher complains.
“Oh right, sorry I’ve been an orb for the last few centuries not used to clothing.” The woman said as a black robe that seemed to be made of smoke materialised around her. Once the smoke crystallised into a dress a glossy black full gown was so closing gripping the woman it might just be her skin shaded a glossy black.
“Can we get on with this, I do have classes to teach.” The complaining teacher continues.
The woman rolls her eyes and hold you her hand. You put the pin in it and she looked you up and down raising an eyebrow. “Are you sure it’s not a mistake?” She asks the headmaster.
You get her meaning and take back the pin before shaking her hand. As you do you feel pull like the one from the scoring ball but stronger, less a pull more a tug.
Should you do the same thing as last time or resist this time?
