Chapter 99 by keron keron

Getting through dinner

Dinner is a 5-course meal and you take the opportunity, while invisible, whenever possible to sneak some food for yourself. It's delicious although you wouldn't exactly classify the event itself as delightful. Marty barely says a food and hurriedly consumes his food while Morgan and Scarlett chat like school girls about random things, mostly fashion and celebrity gossip. Morgan continues to make snarky comments about her brother throughout the dinner and the businesswoman is the only 1 who shows any interest in what the private chef she hired is doing.

At the end of the meal, the businesswoman sees the chef out of the kitchen while the 3 young people sit around awkwardly. When the businesswoman returns, she takes a birthday cake out of the fridge, sticks some candles on it and brings it over to the table. She starts singing happy birthday to Marty and makes the girls join in. When the song is done, she slices off a big piece for Marty and hands it to him on a plate.

Morgan can't keep herself from saying something snide. "You sure you don't want the other piece?" she says, referring to the rest of the cake. Again, you feel bad for Marty and you're about to use your magic rings to exact some sort of **** on behalf of the birthday boy, when the businesswoman suddenly slams her open palm on the table loudly, causing everyone else to jump. Even you were surprised by the outburst.

"That's enough, Morgan! All I ask is that you be nice to your brother for 1 day. Heck, just for 1 meal would be nice!"

Morgan looks sheepish as she lowers her head like a dog being scolded.

"Is that too much to ask?!? Huh?!?" the businesswoman continues. "And where is your present?"

"I- I- I uh... I ran into Scarlett at the mall and uh- I-" Morgan stutters.

"You what?!?"

"I... I thought having Scarlett here would be as good as a present..." Morgan says, exchanging looks with her friend.

"Why would that be a present? Scarlett, you've been acting the same as Morgan as well! You know, your mother and I were sorority sisters and I've known you since you were born. If I told your mother about how you are-"

"No! Please don't tell her!" Scarlett begs the businesswoman, clearly terrified of her own mother.

The businesswoman crosses her arms and fumes in silence, staring daggers at the young women. Marty is holding his plate of cake, unsure of what to do, while Morgan and Scarlett just sit there and wait for the businesswoman to speak again.
