Chapter 17
by tallywhacker
What's next?
Get treatment
A several geodude and an onyx defend a perimeter around the station by hurling mud at the flames. The station is predictably busy as rangers coordinate evacuation and extinguishing efforts. A ranger directs you to a treatment area where a Nurse Joy attends trainers to the best of her ability.
You wait with Yellow for her treatment, hoping it's not too serious. She shivers as her damp clothes start to chill her. You hold her close to keep her warm, and she passes out in your arms. She's getting better with you being so close.
You pass time by reading bulletins and posters. Seems like they were planning a bug catching competition. Most of it is educational: what to do if you run into a beedrill nest, where to set up tents. Then, one poster catches your eye. It has an Ursaring in a ranger hat talking about fire safety including tips like: make sure to always extinguish your fire moves after a match; even an ember can cause a wildfire.
Okay, it's probably gauche to say right now, but wildfires aren't all bad. Ash makes great fertilizer, it breaks up the canopy so light can reach new growth, it can destroy invasive species. Charmeleon is about fifteen levels overpowered and your other pokemon are a little over-leveled too.
You should probably keep your head down for the time being.
It takes twenty minutes for Joy to get around to Yellow. She's bruised and an ankle got twisted, but thankfully nothing's broken. You give the women privacy while Joy applies bandaging.
You have a bit of a progress block. You saw Misty run past a while ago, so neither she nor Brock will be available for gym battles till the fire's out. Erica will probably come to help reforestation. Who knows how Giovanni will respond.
How to spend the time?
