The summer heatwave hadn't quite ended yet, and even this early in the morning the temperature in the house was rising steadily. This past week had been scorching, and today already felt like it would be no different. Heading downstairs to the kitchen, you opened the fridge and grabbed yourself a fresh orange juice and the remnants of last night's takeaway.

Settling yourself at the breakfast bar, you made short work of the leftover chow mein. It always tastes better in the morning for some reason. As you scraped the last few noodles from the box and pushed it away, you noticed a folded white note propped up against the empty toast rack in the middle of the bar.
