Chapter 10 by LBJ LBJ

What's next?

Get clothes for your friend

In a brief moment of respite, you seize the opportunity to search for your friend's clothes. As you locate them and hand them over to him, a small glimmer of relief flickers within your heart. But duty calls, and you must return to the restaurant.

However, your return does not go unnoticed. The manager catches sight of you and his irritation becomes apparent. He berates you for lagging behind in serving the guests, threatening to send you back to Mexico if your performance does not improve. The weight of your changed circumstances bears heavily on your shoulders, the realization sinking in that you are now an employee of the restaurant, living as an undocumented immigrant.

The manager informs you that you will be accommodated in a shared apartment with a few other waitresses, further cementing the reality of your new life. The urgency to inform your friend gnaws at you, but he is nowhere to be found, leaving you torn between your responsibilities and your longing to reconnect with him.

Fearful of neglecting your duties again and facing the consequences, you suppress your worry and focus on fulfilling your obligations. Every passing moment brings a deeper understanding of the struggles and sacrifices that lie ahead. Survival becomes your primary goal as you navigate the challenges of this unfamiliar world.
