Centuries have passed under the control of humanity, and most creatures that exist now have always lived oppressed by humans. They have only heard of a free Equestria in ancient legends, and they have been conditioned so much into accepting their place that most can't even begin to imagine the idea of ever questioning that position, let alone fight against it.
