How Does The Realm React???
Generally Positive
The Realm Rejoiced At The News King Aegon Was Expecting A Coming Heir and Several Houses Had Already Sent Congratulations and Gifts To The Royal Family. Aegon Had Found That Northern, Reach, Dornish, and Crownlands Houses Sent Along Numerous Gifts and There Was Scarcely A Noble House From Such Regions Not To Send Gifts and Congratulations. House Tyrell Was By Far The Most Grandest In It's Gift, Mace Tyrell Spared No Expense In His Gifts. A Good Dozen Of The Finest Arbor Golds With A Hint Of Vanilla and Peach Just Like How Aegon Liked It, A Solid Gold Goblet For Aegon With A Pair Of Silver Goblets For The Two Queens. Followed By A Number Of Gifts Meant To Symbolize Renewing Old Ties, Clearly Attempting To Return To The King's Good Grace's. Aegon Sent A Raven To Highgarden, Thank Lord Tyrell For His Gift, but Subtly Warning Him That All Had Not Been Forgiven.
House Martell While Not The Wealthiest, The Greatest, Or Strongest House, Had Sent a Gift As Well, An Unusual Thing. Martell's, Indeed Most of Dorne Generally Didn't Send Gifts To The Royal Family, Unless They Were Poisoned. But Aegon Had The Dornish In His Blood, His Mother Was A Princess Of Dorne, and Aegon Had A Dornishman As His Hand. Aegon Also Hoped To Improve Dorne's Standing, Trystane and Arianne Were The Only Martell's Unwed, and Aegon Wasn't Willing To Lose Arianne To Some Pisspot Husband. This Left Trystane, The Youngest Son Of Aegon's Uncle Doran. Trystane Could Be Used To Secure An Alliance With A House Aegon Himself Had Declined Or Refused, Perhaps Myrcella Baratheon Would Be A Suitable Match For Trystane, Or Maybe A More Distant Match In The Free Cities? Sadly There Were More Women Than Men, Making The Decisions Less Easy.
Aegon Could Take Advantage Of Arianne's and another Lord's Unmarried Status, Specifically, Lord Renly Baratheon, Who Himself Was A Noted If Rumoured Homosexual, and Arianne and Renly Could Be Wed, and After A Child By Renly, Aegon Could Take Arianne As His Paramour. The Line Would Be Continued, and The Storm Lord's Wouldn't Give Much Problems To A Post-Child Affair. Arianne Would Likely Agree and Lord Renly Would Be Given A Match To Keep Stannis Off His Back. But Aegon Had Another Matter To Attend To.
Aegon Sat With His Two Queens and Quentyn. ''We Need To Keep The Two Of You Out Of Sight, Until This Child Business Is Over. No One Outside Of Trusted Handmaidens Can See You, and Your Both To Be Under Constant Guard. Varys Has Assigned Agents To Both Of You, they Will Ensure Neither Of You Are Exposed.'' Says Aegon as He Looks At Both His Queen's. ''Why Would We Need To Be Hidden?" Asks Sansa. ''Because Some Would Attempt To Prevent A Firstborn Son Of The King's Being Of Northern Or Essosi Blood and Culture.'' Quentyn Explained. ''Indeed, The One Thing Worse To Certain Southron Elements Than A Queen From The North, Is A Queen From Essos. Steps Need To Be Taken, and The Small Council Agrees To These Measures.'' Says Aegon as He Gets Up. ''But For How Long?" Asks Sansa. ''Hopefully No Longer Than A Year. Until Then, Just Deal With It As Best You Can.'' Says Aegon as He Leaves With Quentyn.
Aegon and Quentyn Were Going Over The Upkeep Of Rebuilding Harrenhall and Moat Callin, Discussing Measure's To Take If They Hoped To Take Advantage Of Such A Strategic Lynch Pin In The North's Defense That Was Moat Callin, Or The Notoriously Cursed Harrenhall. Ultimately, Aegon Decided To, With Agreement From Lord Stark and Magister Mopatis, Gift Moat Callin To Aenys Blackfyre, and Make It The New Seat Of House Blackfyre. A Measure To Ensure The North Was Firmly In Crown Hands, and That A Targaryen Ally Had The Rhetorical Key's To The North and Ability To Control Land-Based Trade To The North. Aegon Chose To Order Construction Of A Great Wall, Barricading The North From The The South, Both As A Defensive Measure, and A Means To Control Trade. Seven Castles Would Be Raised, Three To The East and West Of The Centre Of The Wall, and The Third Before Moat Callin. The Castles Would Make Use Of Extensive Underground Storage, With Tunnels Reaching The Other Castles Along The Wall. What's More, The Four Non-Constructed Castles Would Be Set Behind The Wall At Various Way Points, and Would Be More Of A Keep Than Castle. Designed As Troop Outposts, These Secondary Castles Would Form The Main Source Of Guards To Man The Northern South Wall.
A Massive Undertaking, Which Required Massive Amounts Of Coin To Fund Construction. Argon Planned To Arrange A Betrothal Between Trystane and Myrcella Baratheon, While Also Taking Advantage Of Lord Mace Tyrell's Eagerness To Regain Aegon's Favor. So With Both Tywin Lannister and Margaery Tyrell Still At Court, Aegon Concocted A Plan To Secure Three Armies and Acquire Two Very Large and Very Deep Coffers For One Marriage and A Suggestion. So He Called A Half-Complete Session Of The Small Council, Where Only Tywin, Tyrion, Quentyn and Varys Attended.
Aegon Had Laid Out His Desire To See Trystane At Last Married, and Suggested Myrcella Was A Great Match. Where Cersei Did Not Wish To Marry Oberyn, Myrcella Marrying Trystane Was Best For The Four Houses. Tywin Agreed To Arrange It, While Aegon Suggested Myrcella Be Sent To The Water Garden's To Acclimate To Dorne Properly and Learn It's Customs From Prince Doran. Tywin Agreed and Suggested His Daughter Would Instead Marry Loras Tyrell's Eldest Brother Willas. A Match With House Lannister Was Considered A Gold Standard, Seconded Only By A Royal Marriage Which Was A Gold On Top Of Gold Standard. House Martell Was Technically One Of The Royal Houses, Due To The Fact That Aegon's Mother Was Of The Martell's Of Dorne, Which Was Technically Royal Anyway As They Styled Themselves Princes Or Princesses. Even If He Hadn't Come Into The Crown, Aegon Knew He'd Be A Prince On Either Side Of His Family Tree.
Trystayne Marrying Myrcella Brought With It A Substantial Pedigree and History, and Marrying Myrcella To Trystane Gained Royal Favour, Both The Royal Families and Region Liege Families Were Suitably Satisfied. Besides The Dornish Needed Lannister Wealth To Give Them Better Arms and Armor, and The Coin To Fund Mercenaries Should The Tyrell's Ever Get Any Delusions Of Grandeur. Still, Aegon Foresaw Marrying Cersei To Willas Tyrell Was Not Ideal, But The Best Solution At Present. Visenya Was Still Alive and With Child, So Until The Child Was Born, Aegon Wouldn't Be Able To Do Away With Her. Wife-Killing Was One Thing, But You Don't Kill A Baby, That Was Something Aegon Refused To Allow To Ever Happen, Hence His Strict Stance On Infantile **** Resulting In Public Executions. Either Way The Sooner Aegon's Heir's Were Born, The Sooner He Could Rid Himself Of Visenya.
