Gather your supplies and bond with Toph

“Can you pass me the rope to your left?” You asked Toph as the two of you worked to gather the scattered supplies and clean up the camp. Thankfully while the fight with the caterpillar thing was intense and burned a lot of the supplies; there was still quite a bit of good stuff to be salvaged. You were able to replace your backpack and have one leftover for Toph. Your extra sets of clothing survived but you will be down a few pairs of underwear, Toph also had come copies of her Blind Bandit outfit.

You had offered the use of the still intact tent for her to change out of her noblewoman's outfit which you did not know why she was wearing in the first place. Possibly she was changed into it by the producers for ratings or she was convinced to wear it somehow. She did not take the tent and instead earthbent a tent of her own to get changed in instead. She was done quickly and she set about gathering her own supplies after snatching both my remaining chunk of wolf meat from me and her own chunk.

Toph tossed the rope to you and you quickly got it squirreled away in the pack. You already had the tent packed up and were about to check the surviving crates for rations and a spare sleeping bag as your own got a little burnt but not too badly.

“Say Fry Boy, how’d you know my name?” Toph asked you suddenly. You looked over at her stasis pod and thankfully it had a ready made excuse, thank you tv producers.

“Your name is on the stasis pod I found you in,” you explained as you found some pizza flavored rations and quickly stored them away. You were about to point at the pod but stopped yourself as you recalled she was blind. “You can check for yourself, it looks like they also have your name in braille.”

“I’m blind…” Toph deadpans. “I can’t read whatever braille is.” Which you figured but you never know with variants of characters, some universes could have it and others don’t.

“No one ever taught you braille? It's this language made of bumps/holes and patterns for different characters so that people who are blind can read and write,” You explained as you found a gallon of water which you used to refill your canteens. Tossing the empty gallon away, you were about to offer another gallon to Toph to fill her canteen up when you say that she had frozen.

“There is an entire written language for blind people? And people kept this from me?!” Toph asked you as she earthbent the ground beneath you to bring you in front of her. “And what the hell is a Stasis pod?”

“In order, yes and I think there are variants out there, and I’m not sure about where you are from but they might not have it,” you say to pacify her and hopefully not make her negative to certain people. “And a stasis pod is something my people use a lot; it safely freezes people and allows them to be safely transported a long way without worrying about food or water.”

“Is that why I was so cold,” Toph thought out loud before she went for her pack and grabbed the gallon I had in my hand and stuffed it inside.

“Probably, I know people who are left with shivers for a few days after depending on how long they were in there,” You shrug as you gave one last look around for anything useful. You had already taken a few bits of the giant caterpillar monster’s armored exoskeleton and an odd set of gems in its chest while Toph was getting changed. And you were able to harvest some of its meat though it smelled terribly.

“Anyways, if we stick together, I could try teaching you some braille if you’re interested,” you say as you put on your pack and strap your trusty frying pan to your side.

Toph let out an uninterested noise before she put on her own backpack and used earthbending to create a stairway off the cliff ledge and down into the unknown forest below.
