"Honey!" Jennifer called from the front door, watching the red Ferrari speed away, "Where are you going?"

She just couldn't figure it out. Dinner had been going great, Tina was behaving herself, and Joe's announcement had been wonderful. What in the world had caused her husband to run off like that? It just wasn't like him. She turned and walked back to the dining room where her family was waiting for her.

"Is he alright?" Samantha asked, a concerned pout on her face.

"I don't know," Jennifer replied, sitting back down at the table, "He sped off so quickly, I couldn't ask what the matter was."

"Maybe it was something he remembered from work," Samantha postulated, "something time sensitive."

"I'm sure it was something like that," Jennifer replied, doubting her words.

"My shoes," Joe mumbled.

"What was that, sweetie?" Jennifer asked.

"He was asking about my shoes," Joe spoke more clearly, "then he ran off. Could that be something?"

"Your new shoes?" Samantha said, look down at her brother's black high-heeled Mary-Jane's, "they're cute, but why would he run off because of your shoes?"

"Yeah, you're right," he said, "Probably just a coincidence."


Alex pulled up to the gas station. His sports car was great to drive, but it was a pig on gas, especially how he had been driving. The station was busy, a minivan at one pump, a sedan at another, and a truck at the third. Keeping to himself, Alex slid his credit card into the prepay slot on the pump, grabbed the nozzle, and began to fill his tank.

Having never owned a Ferrari before, Alex had no idea how big the tank was, but was surprised at how many litres were used when the nozzle finally indicated that it was full. It was over eighty litres! It was a good thing that money wasn't much of an issue, because it was exactly the kind of car that could bankrupt a person on fuel cost alone.

"Nice car," came a voice as Alex returned the nozzle to the pump. He looked up to see the speaker. It was..
