GB96 s2 - The Fellowship Part 1

You aren’t sure what went wrong. Maybe it’s all the thoughts you’re having about college, about money, about moving out… something distracted you. Something made you forget for a moment that you were the smart one.

As you sit on a Friday night, listening to the phone ring endlessly, you snap out of it.

You slowly hang the phone up. It’s gotten to where it seems like you can never catch Stef at home. It feels as though huge buckets of clues have been dumped on your head, and you honestly can’t tell if you’ve been ignoring them on purpose or not. You’re already dressed to go out; it seemed like a slam dunk. There’s a party at CCL House. You haven’t seen Lily in a while. It seemed like a sure thing that Stef would want to go. Especially since you’ll be moving out in just a few days. You aren’t going very far away, but still.

You only sit there for a minute. You’ve never been the type to show your emotions too much or let them out, although you did give Stef a harsh yelling for the thing with the motorcycles. Somehow, she seems to have gotten away with that… thank God.

With a sigh, you stand up and finish putting yourself together. Your mom is working. It’s just you, and that’s just now sinking in. You aren’t stupid. It’s denial. But that’s OK.

You know Stef. You know her well. As you head to your yellow VW, you get it. Just because you love her doesn’t mean that you can’t also recognize that she is both stupid and a coward. Maybe you were just hoping that she would grow out of some of that. Morosely, you start the engine. What do you do in this situation, though? Dump her? That wouldn’t work. It would provoke her ego and prompt something hurtful. Quietly let it go? Just start dating someone else? For starters, you can go get drunk at CCL House and see if Lily will throw you a pity fuck.

Stef doesn’t want to initiate a breakup with you because she’s a pussy, but what about Ellen? She’s smarter than Stef. And frankly, a better person. Or so you thought. Is there any chance that right now Stef is not in Ellen’s bed? You doubt it. And you don’t want to think about it. You need a party and ****. And lots of it.

To think that you’d been so happy to see Stef and Ellen getting along so well. Hell, it was your idea to bring Ellen to the business.

You have to drive through town to get to CCL House. You stop at a sign and happen to look into the diner. Stef and Ellen are right in front of you in a window booth. You were only half-right. Stef and Ellen aren’t fooling around with each other, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less. Nadia sits across the booth from them, and beside her is that blonde. Jessica.

You spent the whole drive trying to figure out how you were going to be cool about this. So much for that.
