Fusion
As individuals, we feel singular; we feel like one. But the truth is, as science tells us, that each of us is many. The brain itself is a colony of very specialized cells, a society of cooperating elements, a complex community of mind. But together, the individuals in this neural collective form a larger structure: a circuit, an organism. Experiences are absorbed by this neural community, and a mind emerges. The brain, the organism, the self, the "I"—they are all one thing, working together. When you meet another brain and self, you see the person and not the teeming society of cells that makes them. The walls of the fortress, the space between us, makes the other seem separate and singular.
But what if the wall came down? If the barriers disappeared, and the individuals could merge, what would happen then? Who would you be when you wake up?
