Chapter 5

What is the first rumor to be written?
Fun and a breakup
Emily’s perspective
I noticed Lisa pick up the box. She wrote her note faster than I could pick up a pen. We weren’t supposed to share our ideas. Which made me was mildly nervous, given that… the guy did mention that because of her karmic level, she could probably get me. Seemed unfair that I was involved in this game, but I mean. What better chance for **** would I ever get? Even if I took a bit of punishment, I could at least deal way more back.
The box glowed while in her hands as the note went in, and for a second, it felt like the entire classroom was shaking.
Lisa – Did you hear? Emily had even more fun during cheer practice then Lisa did <3
“I got to help my mom with dinner tonight, so see ya tomorrow, goodnight,” Lisa said as she ran out the door.
Alone was something I was more accustomed to anyhow. Writing my note for April, I picked up the box and that felt weird. Like, it felt like lifting a planet the size of an apple. Easy, yet not. The gravity felt intense for something empty. I dropped my note inside and felt a surge of electricity in the air.
Emily – April breaks up with her boyfriend and decides to stop dating
I could sit here and write more but that felt somewhat wrong. Plus, I had a lot of homework to catch up on. So with something done for the day, I decided to leave. I didn’t want to rush this at least not yet.
Home was empty, dad was probably still at the car lot, and mom probably stayed over at the library. They were both happily married house mice except for those jobs. They were nice, gave me space but where there for me. In some way it annoyed me. Like, I almost wish they were more noisy or something. It was hard to just give them my thoughts. Though given what was about to happen, the space was probably a good thing.
Next day during lunch, I saw it happening. April shouting to the squad while she typed wildly on her phone. I didn’t see Jake. Come to think of it, hadn’t seen him yesterday either. As I walked towards the outside bleachers like I normally did, a few of the cheer squad ran over to me.
“Emily, where you going?” the two said in unison.
“Uh, outside?” I answered suspiciously.
“No way, your part of the squad now. Your coming with us,” the two said grabbing my elbows and walking me towards the cheer table. “You got to hear this.”
Sitting down at the table April threw her phone into her purse. “Still nothing?” another cheerleader said.
“Yes,” April shouted.
“Huh?” I said still caught in the awkwardness of this.
“Jake hasn’t texted her in two days,” Lisa whispered.
“Oh, is something wrong?” I asked.
“Doesn’t matter,” April said with a huff. “We are so over. Well, enough of that, since your here. You got it Nancy?”
A blonde that had fetched me nodded her head and took out a bag. “Here you go.”
“Thanks,” I said opening the bag somewhat still expecting some kind of prank here. I might not have been wrong. It was a cheer outfit. “What’s this for?”
“Seriously Emily, I know you’re not the smartest but don’t be stupid,” April said. “It’s your uniform for cheer. I may not have believed you could do it. But you did, so just take it silly.”
“Me cheer? What? No way,” I said blushing.
Nancy giggled. “She is so shy, cute.”
“Why did you apply then?” April asked with a raised brow.
Lisa cut in. “Oh don’t be like that. Most of us were shy.”
My phone beeped. It was a text.
– How do you expect to teach them a lesson if you don’t know what they need to learn? What better way then as part of there group?
The return number was twenty four digits long, so I take it that was the… person? I should really have got his name. My phone beeped again.
– Assuming I am a male, how not politically correct of you lol
Fucker, if he is gonna listen to my thoughts, you could at least give me a name.
“Emily!” another cheerleader said. “Was that a boy? One day in the squad and already getting lucky?”
I blushed even harder.
“Caroline, we got to take her shopping this weekend,” Nancy said.
“Totally,” Caroline replied.
“Wait what? Why?” I said in shock.
They chuckled. “The squad can only help so much with dates. We got to help you get gorgeous.”
Were they calling me ugly? I fumed at the thought. But realized the time was getting low if I actually wanted to eat. So I let it go… for now.
The rest of the day was pretty normal until the school day ended and it was time to… put on this thing, I thought looking at the squad outfit. Half the squad wore it throughout the day, the other half changed into it. Remarkably it was a perfect fit… which made me realize he must have gave them information about my size. So awkward knowing he could be invisible watching me change but what could I do?
How did Cheer practice go?
