“I’m looking forward to seeing what you can find out,” Chris told him.
Full Body Examination
“Alright, Dr. McCoy, I am here for my examination,” Chris told the furry chief scientist of the X-Men. His lab was in the sub-basement, which Jean was happy to show Chris the way.
“Ah, my next experiment!” exclaimed Dr. McCoy as he swiveled around on his chair. Chris felt a shiver run down his spine as the man turned beast said those words.
“Hank! You’ll scare away our newest recruit!” Jean said in a playful tone as she let out a small laugh. Hank let out a hearty laugh at Jean’s words.
“Hahaha! I do apologize. Sometimes I have to find my own amusement when I’m down here in my lab,” he explained to the two.
“Hank! How many times do Scott and I have to tell you that you are always welcome to have one of us be here with you. Our tasks can easily be done by your side,” Jean told the good doctor.
“Yes, I know, I know. I shall try to get more people down here with me,” agreed Hank. “I am afraid what I would do if left to my own devices,” Hank told the two. The man-beast got up and made his way over to meet his guests.
“Come now Hank, you won’t become an evil scientist or something!” Jean laughed off as Hank chuckled as well.
“How can I when I have such wonderful friends and colleagues, such as my fellow X-Men?” asked Hank with a big smile on his face, his fangs showing in his smile.
“I’m glad you remember that, Hank. You are a man, not a monster. And even if you were, you’d be my favorite, nice, monster,” she said to Hank as she gave him a light peck on the cheek.
“That is why you are the heart of the X-Men, Jean,” Hank said as he hugged her. “Now,” he started as he turned to face Chris, “shall we begin?” he asked, well aware of the answer.
“Well then, I’ll take my leave. Don’t go too crazy with the tests, ok Hank?” Jean told the doctor before she left.
“So, shall we begin?” asked Hank as he gestured to an examination chair for Chris to sit in.
“Uh, yeah, sure,” he said as the newest student made his way to the examination chair.
“So, we are only going to do the basics right now. Mainly just various samples, blood, urine, semen, hair, skin,” explained the scientist. “This should give us a good basis to figure out what we need to focus on or, at the very least, can exclude,” he explained to Chris.
“That’s...that’s a lot of uh...fluids,” Chris said, very nervous about a few of those options.
“Yes, it is. But that is because the body is a menagerie of fluids!” the scientist happily told his patient. “Fluids that you need to live, like blood, fluids you have to prevent infection, like mucus, and fluids needed for reproduction, like semen,” explained the happy doctor. “But we will get to that later,” he told Chris as he made his way to a set of controls.
“So, uh, what are we doing first?” asked the nervous teen.
“First, we shall use the scanner to get a baseline reading of your body,” explained Dr. McCoy. “The scan is, basically, a combination of x-ray, MRI, and cat scan, using various technologies we have invented, repurposed, or were gifted from, over the years,” Dr. McCoy told Chris as he fiddled with various nobs.
“That...that’s incredible!” exclaimed Chris. “That could revolutionize the medical field! Why haven’t you shared this with the rest of the world?” asked Chris.
“Well, for starters, we promised the gifts would be used for mutantkind and no other,” explained Hank. “Some of our gifts are from aliens, and not all of them are on friendly terms with humanity. Select, clandestine organizations did horrible experiments on aliens and mutants alike, so when the X-Men saved said aliens and mutants, they gifted us with friendship and technology with conditions. So we will honor those conditions,” he explained to the young, new mutant.
“I see. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to piss off powerful aliens either,” agreed Chris.
“Exactly! So we use it to help our fellow mutants. Now, let’s get this scan started!” said Dr. McCoy who then activates the machine. A large apparatus lowered from the ceiling to hang slightly above Chris as he sat in the examination chair. The apparatus opened to reveal that the apparatus was made up of multiple arms that were all closed in together. The arms each revealed a different tool, Chris assumed, as it lowered around him. He could hear the hum of the machines as they did their jobs, with various lights flashing and strobing to get the pictures that Dr. McCoy needed for his physical. After just a minute or two, the device beeped, folded itself up, and retreated back to the ceiling.
“Is that it?” asked Chris as he watched the device make its way back into its home above his head.
“No. We just have to get the fluids,” Dr. McCoy told Chris as he approached him with a tray full of needles and tubes. Chris felt a shiver run down his spine. He was never a fan of needles and tried to get around them whenever he could.
“Are you, uh, you sure you don’t have any high tech needleless blood syringe thing?” asked Chris as his eyes stared at the tray full of medical equipment. Hank saw where the young mutant was looking and connected the dots.
“Ah, afraid of needles, are we?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
“I mean, I wouldn’t say afraid, just not a fan,” deflected Chris.
“Ah, well this is the only way we have, sadly,” Hank told Chris as he pulled up a chair next to Chris.
“I don’t really have a choice, do I?” asked Chris.
“Well, you do, but this is required for us to figure out your powers and for you to be a potential X-Man,” explained Dr. McCoy as he prepared the first syringe.
“Fine, fine! Just do it quickly, please!” Chris asked the scientist before him.
“I’ll make it as painless as possible. Don’t worry, I’ll leave the semen sample collecting to you,” joked the older mutant, which fell flat to the worried teen mutant.
