“Egwene, I’ve come to take you to Rand, come on, let’s go, he’s worried about you.” Mat said as he walked into the room. He heard sniffs coming from the direction of the ladies standing to one side, but paid them no attention. If he had looked, he was sure he would have seen Nynaeve tugging her braid in annoyance.

“How nice of him to worry for me, but we are no longer betrothed, so he has no need to worry for me.” She said haughtily. Mat sighed, it was going to be like this wasn’t it?

“Egwene, I don’t know what you’re playing at wearing those fancy clothes, and sitting in that big chair, but if anyone finds you you’ll be killed.” Egwene’s eyebrows shot up at his statement.

“Whatever do you mean Mat?” She said in a tone bordering on dangerous. Mat didn’t realize what the tone meant and continued on.

“I’m not blind Egwene, I know that you shouldn’t be sitting there or that those nice clothes don’t belong on a girl from the Two Rivers. Stop playing games, and let’s get going, Rand wouldn’t have sent for you if he didn’t have a good reason.”

“Is that how you talk to the Amyrlin Seat Matrim Cauthon?” Nynaeve said imperiously.

“Amyrlin Seat?! Oh blood and bloody ashes and don’t look at me like that Elayne, I’ll swear when I want. You’ve all gone mad, I can’t believe this! How can you be Amyrlin when there is one already in the Tower?!”

“I am the Amyrlin of the rebel Aes Sedai Mat, and I’d like to be treated as such.” She said coolly.

“Is this true Egwene?” Aviendha spoke up. Mat had forgotten that the Aiel girl was there, and was surprised to see her standing right beside him, she was a dangerous one.

“Yes Aviendha it is true.”

“My near sister Elayne is Aes Sedai and my near sister Egwene is Amyrlin.” She said happily.

“Yes, yes. Now you all are going to get killed by the Tower as rebels! Come with us, Rand can help you.”

“I will take protection from no man.” Egwene said haughtily.
