Chapter 40 by SilverSpectre006 SilverSpectre006

Which Brings Us to where you came in...

From Heaven to Hell

"What's gotcha beaming harder than a lighthouse under a hard storm?"

I shook my head and looked up at that cute smirk of hers, calling me out of my daze. "Just remembering when we first met."

"Ha, yea right! Yer starin' at my ass again, ain't ya"

"Maybe? Not my fault it jiggles with each step."

"Yer bout as hungry as a starving hyena ye know? 'N we ain't exactly in the right place for a get together."

She was right, not to say doing it in public is out of the question, it was a thrill we would participate in time and time again. This time was different as we held on to our cargo behind our backs and continued following the road down the curve of the mountain side. I looked up as the cold air grew cooler and felt my shoulders drop as the thick dark clouds grew more.

"Maybe this hike was a bad idea. That storm you mentioned could be reality."

"Ain't a bad idea, ye know I like me sum hikin'! Besides, ye didn' left me with much to say with your tongue between my legs, kitty licker!"

"Not my fault your taste is addicting!" I quipped back, sharing another laugh before a drop fell on my head followed by another. Soon the rain began to pick up speed, and I grudingly reached for my beret as Charlotte fished out her floppy hat from her backpack. "Damn it, we didn't come in prepared for this kind of weather."

"Ye tellin' me. I thoughts it s'posed to be sunny today!"

"That's what the weather channel said, stupid reporter." We continued marching down the road as the rain grew heavier and the day became darker and colder.

"Helen, if I die Ima haunt ye everytime ye lovin' anuther woman!"

"Like hell you are. I'll strip and keep you warm with body heat if I have to."

Charlotte smiled and slowed down for Helen to catch up before reaching for her hand. "So, ye was sayin' bout how we met like sum... I don't know, three or four years ago? 'Member what I said to ye that night?"

"After our dance?"

She nodded. "Best night I ever did have. Ye ever had secon' thoughts?"

I pulled her in and kissed her hard, her warm lips contrasting versus the harsh wind freezing us over. "Never in my life. I'm sorry this day went to shit but... happy four years baby."

"Gosh, I can't get rid a' ye, can I?"

I shook my head with a smile. "Afraid not. Let's continue, maybe we'll find a town or somethin' nearby!"

"Big Sur can't be too far away... oh hey look! Maybe they can help us?"

Looking over, there was a big bus with windshield wipers stepping into overdrive to keep their vision somewhat available.

"Think they'll slow down?" I asked.

"Look like they already are! We're saved!" Charlotte cheered before clapping her hands and giving me another hug. By then our bodies were soaking wet.

"Whoa, down girl! Not exactly the way I plan to get wet tonight." She let me go with a wink before noting which direction the bus came from.

"Shucks, maybe they headin' the other way?"

"Who cares, they stopped didn't they?" The bus door opened up allowing me to step in, droplets falling onto the steps below. A cute looking blonde with pretty blue eyes and a chest that would be quite a mouthful to the lucky partner was there to greet me. Besides her was the driver, a decently built man with spiky brown hair and somewhat matching eyes.

"Hey! Where you heading?"

"You better turn around, cuz we're goin the other way!" Charlotte shouted as she made her way in behind me, grunting softly as she wiped some of the rain out of her eyes. The hat wasn't helping too much, but at least our two mystery people seemed to enjoy our status.

The woman spoke up first, gesturing us to sit at the back. "Hop in. We're on our way to a little south of Big Sur." She turned, scrabbling back into the front seat as we shucked our backpacks into the back of the bus.

I sighed in relief before making my way over. "Great! That's right near where we're going." Charlotte shifted over to sit besides me, dropping her backpack onto the floor and reaching to squeeze my hand. "Guess today might not be so bad."

"Who knows?" She smiled as the bus started up again.

Who knows...

But now... how to sum it up....
