Friendly Favor

Jessica gets a text from her best friend, Barbara, who asks Jessica if she can pick her niece up from Playtime Daycare Center.

“Fine. Send me directions. We’ll hang out afterwards.” Jessica replies.

Getting the directions, Jessica starts up her car, peels out of her driveway and speeds off towards her destination. Arriving, Jessica hurriedly raced into the Daycare, hoping to be in and out of their. The truth is, Jessica doesn’t really like kids that much. To her, they’re noisy, annoying, messy and rude. Jessica just wants to get Barbara’s niece and leave before...

“Well, who might you be?” A tall woman asks, breaking Jessica out of her train of thought.

“I’m picking up my friends’ niece.” Jessica says, thinking that the girl will magically appear so they can leave.

“Okay, sweetheart.” The woman stifles a giggle. “Do you know your friend’s niece’s name?”

Sweetheart? The nerve of this airhead. Jessica thought. But then, a more troubling thought came up. Barbara forgot to mention the name of her niece! Jessica reached into her pocket for her phone to call Barbara, but made another startling discovery. She has left her phone and purse in her car, which is being towed for double parking in a handicap space! Jessica ran passed the woman screaming at the tow truck, driving away.

“Now, sweetheart we mustn’t play in traffic. Why don’t you come back inside so we can get you all comfy.” The woman ushers Jessica back inside the Daycare.
