Chapter 3 by Sixth Sixth

Does Josh take the utility belt?

Forget the belt, what about water?

Josh was certain the single biggest challenge he faced right now was staying alive in the apparently harsh environment. Being able to fix mechanical problems wasn't even a factor. He dropped his belt back into the crashed space craft and rooted around the smoking remains for rations or anything else that might be useful.

Nothing. Nothing except for a torn shirt that he wrapped around his head to protect his scalp from the baking sun.

Josh was also certain that the Galileo 12 was not stable. The power cells had not ejected when the ship hammered through the atmosphere of the planet. All it would take was a slightest crack to open up in the reactor shielding and the whole vessel would become a time bomb - it would be a matter of when, not if, the space craft exploded. He knew he had to be as far away from here as possible when that happened.

Josh picked a direction at random and struck off into the jungle. He was glad of his decision to leave the utility belt behind. Branches and vines clung at him as he tried to push his way through the vegetation. There were plenty of small reptiles and dangerous looking snakes on the mossy tree trunks but no sign that anything his size had ever come this way before.

He would need to find water soon.

Deeper into the jungle?
