Billy kept his promise, calling and texting as much as possible… at first.

The weeks went by.

Spring turned into summer.

Billy hadn’t heard from Patty in over two weeks. He was starting to worry that his fling with Patty was nothing more than a simple passing thing.

It was late July already.

Jessie’s trial had already started.

Billy had all but given up on Patty by this point.

He was working the host stand at the restaurant. It was a slow morning, due to rain.

He was goofing off when he heard a voice

“Table for one please.”

He looked up. For a moment he didn’t recognize the man standing before him.

“Hi honey… I’m home… to stay.” Patty said.

Billy looked him over. Patty’s hair was much longer now, styled just the way Billy liked it. He was wearing a mini skirt that left nothing to the imagination and a pair of five inch heels.

“I… thought…”

“That I’d given up on you?” Patty asked “fuck no… I wanted all this to be a surprise.”

“What?”

“I filed a civil suit separately from the criminal one. Jessie’s parents settled for enough for me to buy a house… here.”

“Here?” Billy asked.

“Yep. I wanted it to be all ready before I came and got you.”

“Oh… wow…” Billy said.

“And there was just enough left over for one extra thing.” Patty said.

He dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring.

“Billy, will you marry me?” Patty asked

Billy was in shock.

“Yes… yes of course…” Billy said.

Patty slid the ring on Billy’s finger, then reached into his purse and handed Billy one.

“You can propose as well, or you can just stick this on me.”

Billy took the ring and held it close to Patty’s hand.

“Patty, will you marry me?” He asked.

Patty said yes with a smile and slid the ring on.
