Chapter 7 by elmer7780 elmer7780

What does the drow do next?

Focus her attention on your "hidden presence"

After internally wallowing in frustration and embarrassment over her predicament, she then relaxes, paying no heed to the trolls who no doubt are insignificant now that she is conscious.

You flinch as she turns her gaze into your direction. The first thing you notice is that her eyes are...cold. The second thing you notice is that her lips turn upward into a smirk.

It is as if she found someone to help make her forget about her predicament and what better way than to go after the person who witnessed her poor state?

Trolls can't see well in the dark; however, drows can. Something of which you should have taken account for. Maybe you hoped that the drow would be a little bit more thankful. How foolish you are. You steady the knife in your hand, waiting for her to strike first. Running wouldn't help you now.

The drow disappears.

She silently jumps out of the light within a second, which you wouldn't have caught if you blinked. You grit your teeth, wanting to desperately plead for a stay and to talk things out, but that would mean waking up the trolls.

You hear her footsteps swiftly approaching you, quiet enough that the trolls near the campfire and who-knows-where-else wouldn't be disturbed, but loud enough for you to hear thanks to your ranger senses. It appears that she is some sort of assassin based on her footsteps and that neither of us wanted to wake the beasts that filled the near area.

You are saddened to have to fight a well-endowed cousin of the elf. You held no prejudice towards drows before as you've never met one until now, but perhaps they really are as evil as everyone says they are to be since the drow is clearly aiming for you. Well, there is no use in worrying about it now as you had to fight to kill-or-be-killed.

For rangers who hunt and hide their tracks and presence, they always aim for the element of surprise. Assassins are similar, but they focus more on hiding in shadows than any specific environment. For the drow, they excel at being assassins due to their naturally dark bodies. They are also more agile thanks to their developed and firm bodies, so it is no surprise that they are swifter.

This only means you have to use you everything to the best of your abilities. With your winter cloak still strapped onto your back, you turn around and unclasp it, throwing it into the air just as you feel the drow enter your reach. You plan on distracting her with your cloak when she will expect a body and swiftly rotate around her to kill. You didn't care if she is unarmed, the fact she is fast enough to reach you means she is dangerous. She can easily disarm the knife you are holding and use it against you, so you had to keep your distance and use any distraction you could to throw her focus off.

You hear the drow hit your cloak and finally move in with your knife close to your chest so you have less of a chance being countered.

Did your attack go as planned?
