Flowers and Breakfast.
Sitting between both children who pulled her with them to sit at the table, Moon Dame sat across from Reed who was still trying to wake up and looked relieved when their household robot HERBIE arrived and poured the man a cup of coffee before floating back to the kitchen to assist with breakfast.
“Thank you, HERBIE…” Reed sighed, taking a sip of his drink, and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
Watching him go through his morning routines made the woman pause, simply watching him out of nostalgia. Everything he did, from checking his phone to going over previous notes he had gone over the previous night made her feel like she was reliving a long-lost memory. A pleasant one that made her smile when she watched him shake his face and his chin wriggled like rubber before he straightened back up. It almost made her chuckle. It wasn’t until she felt a hand tug at her sleeve that she was broken of her daydreaming to the little girl smiling up at her.
“Wanna see a toy I made?”
“A toy?”
Bringing up what looked like a small metallic cube to the woman’s attention, Moon Dame picked it up and gave it a look over. Looking back down at the smiling girl she smiled excitedly, hinting for the older woman to press a button indented on one of the cube’s sides. The moment she pressed it, the cube hummed to life and started to shimmer with different coloured lights like a rainbow, then much to her surprise, those colours began branch out from the surfaces of the cube, like watching plants grow from its surface, the holographic shapes grew out and branches, curling around her fingers like vines and sprouting leaves. Eventually it stopped with the holographic plants blooming soft, frilly blue flowers.
“Wow…”
Turning the cube in her hand, it was like holding a potted plant in her palm, admiring the flowers being shown to her while the little girl at her side wrung her hands together. “Yeah, your like mom, but not quite. Her flowers are blue, but they look like lilies.”
Looking to Reed, the man smiled as he watched his daughter interact with the variant of his wife, explaining the nature of his daughter’s invention. “It’s rather ingenious really. The cube is like a 3-dimensional mood ring, it projects a holographic representation of your mood and emotions in the form of a flowering plant.”
“Why flowers?”
“Because flowers are pretty.” Chirped the young girl, gently taking back the cube and pressing the button to watch her own mood being displayed over it. Susan watched as green vines and lavender flowers bloomed in the girl’s hand. “Oooh, this means I’m hungry.”
“I hear that.” Chuckled Lady Anti-Venom from the other side of the table. “When’s breakfast coming?”
“Breakfast is ready!” Called out Susan as she came into the dining room with several plates worth of omelets being suspended in bubbles of invisible light. Giving her husband a peck on the forehead, she placed each plate of food in front of everyone sitting at the table, joining Reed to sit next to him as they all began to dive into their respective meals.
“Hey! Why does SHE get chocolate chips in her waffles, and I don’t?” Asked Franklin, pointing over to Lady Anti-Venom who grinned cheekily back at the boy as she plucked a fork full of her waffles and ate it.
“Special dietary needs.”
Frowning, Franklin looked down to his waffles with a side of fr4eshly cut strawberries and blinked. At that second, semi-sweet chocolate chips appeared to suddenly have been baked into the waffles when before they hadn’t been. Seeing that play out in front of her, Moon Dame was astonished.
“How…?”
“Franklin, what did I tell you about changing the reality around you?”
Sighing as he cut into his waffles, Franklin took a bite and rested his chin in the palm of his hand. “Don’t change the fundamental laws of reality when you don’t like what you see.”
“That’s RIGHT young man.” Explained Reed. “Besides, you know you still have trouble with your powers, and we don’t want you hurting yourself.”
“Morning everyone.” Called out Johnny as he came in from the hallway and smiled to see breakfast already being served. “Oh, hey, waffles.” Looking to everyone as he sat to join the family, Johnny looked to the two extra Susans there eating and nodded over to them. “So, did you two ladies sleep well? This is probably a culture shock for some of you.”
Cutting into her waffles with a fork, Moon Dame stiffened her lower lip, eyeing the tracker on her wrist. “I didn’t get a wink sadly, couldn’t sleep last night.”
“Sorry to hear, me I slept like a log, good thing too because there’s a rally today and I want to get there while the getting’s…”
A knock at the door alerted the family to visitors, making Johnny narrow his eyes and lose his appetite when he could make out the silhouettes of the people on the other side of the door through the fogged glass.
“…Good.”
Getting up from his seat, Reed went to open the door, his positive demeanor evaporating slightly when he stepped aside to let Director Fury and agent Hill step inside.
“Good morning, Director.”
“Good morning, Reed.” Nodded the man as he stood at the threshold of the Richard’s family home. “Can I come in?”
Stepping aside to let the two enter his home, Fury and Hill did not receive a positive welcome as they made their way inside. “Sorry for showing up without calling, but then again, I thought a surprise visit would be prudent.”
Looking up to the hallway, Fury caught the sight of the third Susan coming into the living room with a hand to cover a yawn.
“Good, you’re here too.” Nodded Director Fury. “I didn’t want to get the impression you three hadn’t been holding to the agreement we had.”
“Hard to leave when you got one of these strapped to your wrist.” Spoke up Lady Anti-Venom, waving her arm where the tracking wrist band was clasped over.
“Indeed, I just came by to ask some questions about last night. Seems we got a few reports of a vigilante attacking some people, witness reports claimed they saw someone in a white cloak.” He stated, turning to look down at Moon Dame with his good eye.
“She’s been here with us the entire time.” Answered Daredevil, sitting at the living room couch and lounging as she rested her head on the arm rest. “Believe me, we’ve been watching tv all night just to get to sleep.”
“Still couldn’t…” Answered Moon Dame, biting into her breakfast as she read Fury’s expressionless gaze.
“Hmm, I’ll hold those alibis to your word.”
“You sure it wasn’t another person out there who wears white beating up punks in the dead of night?” Asked Johnny, pointing at the two SHIELD agents with his fork. “We got one of those too you know.”
“The apostate…”
“Yeah, what she said.” Nodded the Human Torch back to his sister’s variant.
Getting up from her seat, Susan moved to stand next to her husband, the woman looking upset as she crossed her arms. “What is this really about Fury, we’ve been co-operating this entire time.”
“Last night fourteen people were attacked by an assailant in white, most of them still in the hospital missing fingers… And their attacker was a woman, so our friend Mr. Spectre is off the hook for now.”
“Well, it wasn’t HER.” Defended Reed, resting a hand over Moon Dame’s shoulder, noticing she rested her hand over his fingers. “You’ve kept track of their wrist bands, I’m sure you’ve been keeping an eye on their locations all night.”
“I have… And they haven’t left the building either.” Fury answered, looking over to the three women. “But don’t think that doesn’t leave you open to sus…”
A ring from Fury’s jacket alerted him to a call he was getting. Pulling his phone out, he traded a look with Maria Hill who also got a call at the same time, leaving Fury to answer first. “Yes? WHAT? When? Send who you can and… All hands on deck then!” Putting his phone away, Fury looked to Hill and nodded, the two immediately making their departure and leaving everyone there confused.
“Forgive me folks, looks like our OTHER visitors decided to start the morning early, just sit here, and do not leave.”
Slamming the door closed, everyone was still confused until Daredevil turned on the television. Even though she couldn’t see the broadcast, but everyone else could. And what they saw was a woman in dark green robes and a staff causing chaos at Police Precinct One!
