Flip the script ask Eva to stay

“Eva are you able to stay a bit longer? I’m sure my mom’s would love to spend some more time reminiscing with you.”

You weren’t sure where you intended to take this but you needed something to get her on the back foot. Something to upset her game and push the home field advantage.

Catching the brief look of surprise on her face, you high-fived yourself you got her.

“Ah, my dear I would love to but I still have much left over from the move to deal with. Another time okay?”

“You know you’re always welcome in our home. Besides with this screwball gone it’ll be too lonely around here for just us” Brie smiled.

Things didn’t go exactly your way but at least you got Eva out of here. You thought watching her give your mothers a goodbye hug.

Eva next turned to you and dragged you into another embrace. Tensing up, you didn’t respond. Waiting for her to finish as the sweat dripped down your neck.

“Oh before I forget, there was one other reason for my visit.”

Taking a step back from you Eva presented you with a small black business card.

Nervously extracting it from her hand, you glanced down at the card. Inked in gold foil the card simply read.

“Premier Consultations

Eva Black President”

Followed by a single phone number.

“Uh”

Eva again smiled

“I would like you to come work for me.”

Brie cut in immediately “Eva! He would love the opportunity to work for you! Joseph thank Eva for the gracious offer.”

Flinching from Brie’s sharp jab in the ribs you responded

“I’m not sure it’s for me, but thank you nonetheless”

“Please Joseph I’ve seen heard excellent things from Brie. At least stop by tomorrow and take a look. If it is not for you I won’t hold it against you.”

Brie was at this point stabbing you in the ribs with her elbow. You desperately wanted to tell Eva to fuck off memories be damned.

But Brie angry still scared you way more than Eva, besides she only tried to kill you. Brie would do much worse.

Shuddering at the possibilities you answered

“Alright I’ll stop by tomorrow after orientation”

“Thank you, I’m sure you will love it”

Doubt it.

With that Eva and Brie walked to the door.

Sitting down, you suddenly became aware of the copious amount of sweat soaking your shirt. If this was your body’s reaction with your mom’s in the room, you had no idea how’d you survive being alone with Eva.

After a few minutes chatting with Eva, you watched Brie return to the house. Shutting the door behind her you felt a massive wave of impending doom crash over you.

Something wicked this way comes.

Lilly evidently sensing the same gloom, stealthily positioned herself in between you and Brie.

Then with the force of a tsunami Brie exploded

“You are taking that job!”

Lilly bore the brunt of the wave holding her spot between you and Brie. She took your mom’s hands in her own gently swaying them and cooled Brie’s fury with a soft, mushy set of puppy dog eyes and a pouted lip.

You learned this technique from Lilly ages ago however it was still a treat watching the master work.

“I have to agree with Joseph on this, how do we even know he’ll like the job? I’ve known Eva for a dog’s age but I still barely understand what she actually does.”

Brie still smoldered

“She “connects” individuals with people who can help them with problems. Be it politicians looking for rich donors, a wealthy movie star seeking a lawyer to escape a failed marriage, foreign investors on the hunt for a realtor to help them find properties in a new country. She does all of it and she’s one of the best.”

“Sounds shady” you muttered still distrusting Eva.

The stomp on the foot by Lilly indicated this was a mistake.

Brie closed the distance between you with shocking speed. Only a couple feet and Lilly now separated the two of you.

Lilly however was prepared for this, nuzzling her head into the nape of Brie’s neck.

“Darling, I don’t want our son involved in anything dangerous” she cooed tempering Brie’s emotions.

“I know” Brie trailed off slowly losing focus on the argument.

“We can trust Eva, she’s like family she’d never put Joseph in danger.”

“Bullshit” you thought to yourself.

“Besides working with her, he’ll be rubbing shoulders with countless influential people exactly the type of people who will help him succeed.”

Brie had been grooming you for success since the day you popped out of the womb. If it were up to her you’re positive she wouldn’t stop till you were in the White House or Intergalactic Emperor whichever had better benefits.

“But his studies” Lilly again cooed rolling a nat twenty for seduction.

“You know my feelings about school besides if he didn’t have a woman kicking his ass into gear he’d spend the rest of his life bumming on the beach and Eva is exactly the kind of woman to get results from our little lazybones.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence mom” you thought sulking.

“Fine, but only if he likes it”

“I’m sure he’ll love it” Brie replied kissing Lilly’s head and giving you the angry mom eye.

Insulted and for some reason feeling like you got played you opted to cut your losses and leave before your moms decided to take this lovefest further and more mental scarring occurred.
