Chapter 3 by augy6666 augy6666

What happens next

Fleet Admiral explains to him

An hour later, the door slides open and a Caucasian woman enters. Her gray hair is tied back, her face lined with age, but her posture is straight and commanding. The Asian captain steps in behind her, and Doe realizes he can finally understand them—the translator has finished synchronizing.

A soft chime sounds from the stasis pod behind him. A holographic readout flickers to life:

“STASIS RECORD: Doe, John.

CIVILIAN RESEARCH SPECIALIST — CHEMICAL WEAPONS ANALYSIS DIVISION.

UNITED NORTH AMERICAN DEFENSE NETWORK.”

The admiral nods once. “Your identity is confirmed. Doe John, civilian researcher. Chemical‑weapons analysis.”

She folds her hands behind her back. “During the Evacuation Era, over one million generational ships were launched—North American fleets, South American fleets, and the Far East Asian fleets. Your pod belonged to the North American network. But there were no Asian personnel in the pods from your era, so you were assigned to an Asian‑sector vessel. Not all ships get a pod with an ancient man, you are put on this ship, you need to accept your new life.”

Her tone remains calm, almost clinical. “You will serve here for the next 150 years. After that, you’ll be transferred to another ship in the fleet.”

Doe swallows hard. “I‑I’m human… w‑we don’t—”

The captain steps closer, placing a steadying hand near his shoulder. “Breathe,” she says softly. “You’re safe.”

The admiral gives her junior officer a brief look. “Let’s not overwhelm him.”

Then she turns back to John. “Listen carefully. In your era, humans used only a small portion of their cognitive potential. You are currently operating at roughly twenty‑five percent of your brain’s capacity. Present‑day humans, those born in the last several thousand years can function at ninety percent brains.”

She lets that sink in.

“That difference is why everything feels impossible to you right now. It is also why your lifespan will expand dramatically once your neural pathways begin to open. With training, you will adapt. You may live a thousand years or more.”

She grabs a cup from other end of the room using telekinesis.

She gestures to herself. “I am very old woman. but I am over eight thousand years old. The captain beside me is over two hundred.”

Doe feels the room tilt.

The admiral continues, her voice steady. “Earth is no longer habitable. The sun likely consumed it long ago. Humanity left, and we have been searching for a new home. We’ve identified a viable system in the Triangulum Galaxy. Even with our lifespans, these are generational ships. The planet name is called Trinova”

She pauses, letting the truth settle.

“You will begin education aboard this vessel. For the next century, you will learn everything required to function in our society—including how to unlock additional cognitive pathways. Some individuals eventually develop limited telekinetic ability or extended longevity. After your training, you may continue your assigned career or choose a new one.”

Her expression softens slightly. “This ship is currently staffed at only eleven percent capacity. Most operations are handled by the ship’s AI. There is room literally and culturally for growth. You will form connections, build a life, and contribute to the future of our species. If you want me say it, I am ordering you to get new life and I know that you are going to be popular.”

She steps aside. “The captain will explain the ship’s rules and your immediate responsibilities. Your old rules no longer exists.”

What are the rules.
