Five Years Later

I sat across from Melissa, Miriam sitting on my left as I read to her from Dr. Seuss's “Green Eggs And Ham”. She was the splitting image of her mother, I just hoped that she didn’t inherit her mother’s insatiable sex drive. I was about to read the final page when Henry came in with grass stains all over his soccer jersey and shorts.

His mother looked up and sighed, “Oh great and how do you get those out?”

“Don’t worry, I’ll help you with the washing this time!” Winking at her, since it seemed the only time we had guaranteed time alone. Neither of our kids had picked up the helping gene from either of us, must be something they’ll get when their teen years come in.

The one thing we did have was the undying devotion of a child. Melissa made Henry light up just by being in the room with him. Miriam might have been called a shadow if I wasn’t a good two feet taller than her.

I finished reading the story to Miriam, who stretched and yawned, already half asleep beside me. I saw
Henry snuggled close to Melissa nodding off, must have been one hell of a pick-up game the neighbourhood boys had. Melissa caught my eye, something that wasn’t hard to do even after five years of marriage. Then as if one we gently rose and picked up the child beside us and carried them up to their bedroom.

After tucking them in and turning the light off, Melissa and I returned to the living room and like I was often doing when sitting with Melissa lying across my lap I asked her how we did it!. “So have you figured it out yet, how did we both raise two great kids and manage to keep in love with each other?”

And just like usual, Melissa looked up at me and said, “Not sure on the kids! But not losing either my looks or growing fat keeps you interested in me sexually!”

“Hey that’s not fully true, I love that I can talk to us and get a proper reply!”

Then Melissa slipped her left breast out of the t-shirt she had on. “Really, then what is this telling you right now?”

I knew what she wanted and right then and there I leaned down and gave her her desire. I took her nipple in my mouth and twirled it around my tongue, making Melissa sigh in pleasure. I would have done more but the one habit our son had once again came to light!

“MOMMY MY TOOTH FELL OUT!”

Henry stood there just inside the living room door holding a slightly bloody tooth in his right hand. Then as if this was an everyday event for him. “Should I put it under my pillow or can I just hand it to dad and take the ten bucks he’ll leave for it.

I just looked at Melissa who joked, “What can I say, I block him from watching “Kid Truths!” And the internet every chance I find him on it!”

Then Henry spoke up, I didn’t hear that on the “Kid Truth” show, grandpa Walter told me that when I showed him the money I got when I lost my first tooth!”

I looked at Melissa who was shaking her head at Henry. “I told you that was our little secret and never tell your dad about him!” Then before I could say anything. “Both Walter And MaryEllen have been coming around for over a year! Remember the exorcist said that they might come back someday when they felt they were needed and well grandmother has been helping me to cook and learn how to clean better!”

Then Walter piped up, “I promise I haven’t been coming around when you two are in bed being husband and wife!” I was about to say something when I heard “Only because I told you that you weren’t needed there Harold knew how to please Melissa, even if he had been gaining a little weight each month!”

Great! Melissa, my live wife doesn’t say anything about my weight gain but her ghostly grandmother does! And right in front of Henry and Miriam, who i just noticed came down.

“Oh are we having a full family reruining!”

I call out, “That’s reunion and since I thought that your grandparents were finally out of my life, I’ll just go to bed so they will feel wanted!”

But I stopped short when Walter spoke up. “Oh are you still holding me coming around at all hours, Man i thought that you wouldn’t mind since i gave you Melissa ,which you have never thanked me for doing!”

Then Miriam piped up, “Is that how you and mommy met? All she had said was that it was an accident and never tell Ry and me anything else!” Then she dropped her great grandmother into it “And grandma says that I’m not old enough to hear about that!”

Great, some husbands are haunted by the stories of his wife’s grandparents, but it appears that I’m going to have the phantasmal spirits of them for the rest of my life! And this must be the total opposite of “Some Guys Have All The Luck!”
