Chapter 39 by ir0nfang ir0nfang

Well... More training? Or call it for now?

First the LVL ups

Okay so first thing I noticed is I hit level 70, next thing I did was spend the stat points bringing my STR and AGI to 30 each and finally my WIS up to an even 100. I wanted to try and minimize the strain I felt from using my powers, I wasn't expecting the message I got though.
Congratulations on raising your Wisdom to 100! Your powers must now be used for far greater amounts of time in order to strain, your powers will also grow stronger in small amounts each time they are strained, your powers damage increases by a small percentage of your Wisdom stat. NEW COMBO'S UNLOCKED! You can now combine 3 colors together! Have fun experimenting!

That was the point I fell out my seat, shocked even though my body felt well rested from the leveling up. "Whoa! Zane you alright?" Jenny was there almost faster than Sarah, A quick invite to both of them and a shaky finger pointing to what I'd just red had Jenny laughing as Sarah looked at me stunned. "Okay yeah, your powers are bullshit." This only made Jenny laugh harder, saying something about how Jean wouldn't be happy hearing Sarah talk like that. Jenny pressing herself into my back as she looked at the screen closer, asking if I was planning on heading back in.

"I need to get stronger, so I'm gonna try to do as much as I can each day." I explained, looking at the defense screen and preparing to head back in solo before Jenny stopped me. "Hang on Zane, you already got us two, how about we see about grabbing another to join us?" I looked at her in surprise. "I honestly figured you'd be too busy to join me, besides there's quite a few enemies that like to fly around so they can get annoying." I explained, Sarah smiling at that before letting out a little sigh. "Unfortunately I do have to go, but Jenny is free to join you. I'll see about finding a couple more to go with you two." Sarah left the party and began walking away, Jenny looking at me asking if this was gonna be like the **** she'd joined for the other day.

"This time we'll be defending a point or area, usually it's been a huge crystal so far that we've had to protect. Also there's been numerous enemies, from smaller ones that move fast and try to jump at you with bombs attached, all the way to massive Ogre enemies that are about twice as tall as penny usually wielding a massive club." I explained, watching as she blinked with a little bit of surprise at that, then she giggled a bit but mostly left it at that.

We didn't have to wait for long before a couple people came by to join us, both Betsy and Ororo arriving to join. An invite later and we headed in, giving an explanation as we arrived and they saw the wave 1 message waiting for us to start. I explained about the points system, that they carried over, that we could spend them on defenses or prizes that could help each participant to get stronger. I brought up the prizes for Ororo and showed her what she could get, she gasped at seeing all the different ways she could improve her powers, her physical abilities, everything. Betsy saw similar prizes for herself on the screen, including a special weapon just for her. For Jenny though... the prize screen showed things that would help her to recover her memories, piece by piece until she had all of them back, there were other prizes for her but that was some of the big stuff for her especially.

I showed them just how far off we were, at the rate things were going it would take quite a bit more time and more attempts to get past wave 10 and still be ready and able to continue on, so I put more of the points towards increasing just how often or fast we could gain more points for the shop. Killing the boss of that last run had gotten a nice burst of extra points, which helped increase the amount we'd get for dealing with bosses as well as bringing down normal enemies or keeping the crystal from being damaged for bonus points.

We were in a throne room this time it looked like, the crystal sitting in the throne. Good news was that we only had one doorway for the invaders to come from, the bad news is that they were a LOT more difficult to slow down or stop and I had to start spamming clones RAPIDLY to slow them down. We got through the first 5 waves easily once we kept them bottle necked like that, Jenny up front with my clones giving her space, using their spears to stab and limit the enemies movements, her claws making VERY short work of them.

Wave 5 was dealt with pretty quickly, before wave 6 could start though we watched as the entry point moved outside, following it outside we found ourselves in the center of a massive castle. Off in the distance we saw 6 places the invading forces would come from, Jenny letting out a whistle as she saw just how much area there was now between the crystal and the points they would come from. "Are the area's always this big?" She asked looking around the battlefield.

"Not always, this is the biggest one yet actually. I'm not sure how far we'll get this time, but I'm gonna try and gather as many points as I can, try and prepare for a really big run or a solo one, whichever comes first honestly." I explained, Jenny nodding her head a bit as she, Ororo and Betsy explored around the area a bit. I got some advice from them, setting up a pair of archer batteries this time, keeping an eye on the number of points I put into them, I tried selling one and found I got full points back from it! "Huh! That's a surprise, I can get a full refund from defenses if I sell them before we end..."

I upgraded the archer batteries as best I could, improving their range and accuracy mainly, giving a little buff to their fire rate as well. I should be able to upgrade them further if we get a few more waves through this, hopefully just in time for the boss fight. With the archer batteries on an overlook area they could attack from, we began the wave and found ourselves being charged at almost right away. Orcs and Goblins in abundance, Gnolls running out straight for Jenny, trying to swarm and slice her up. Betsy's psionic power brought down groups of them easily. My clones stabbing through Goblins and Orcs with ease, then I saw Ororo flying and focusing...

It took a minute later for her to start calling down lightning strikes, blasting groups of enemies that were too close together, frying them by the dozen as the Trolls and Ogres began to spawn in. Those took some extra hits to bring down sure, imagine my surprise as I watched the archers fire off wave after wave of arrows, hailing down onto the Ogres and Trolls especially, if I could upgrade their damage soon then they should be able to bring down the bigger guys with ease. Betsy's weapons slicing through enemies left and right, Jenny laughing as she tore her way though them rapidly.

We got through the next few waves easily, I was able to upgrade the archers damage so when we started wave 9 the Ogres were getting turns into pincushions and Trolls were being brought down a little quicker now as well. Wave 10 was next, we all tried to prepare ourselves as I explained what the boss last time was. "So a dragon that breaths fire, fly's around, can be crippled, will swipe and bite at us as much as it can?" I nodded my help for a moment. "So that was the boss last time, I don't know if that's gonna be what we fight this time or not." I explained to them, putting more points into defenses, I upgraded the archers again and was shocked to see that they now had homing arrows that would track targets.

That sounds really OP, I buffed up the fire rate as much as I could for them. Making sure we were prepared we began the next wave, we heard an evil laugh moments before the boss appeared...
Demon Lord was the name that appeared at the top of our HUD views, a massive red skinned monster with a gigantic sword in each hand and massive red bat like wings. It spat out several fireballs at us as it began to fly around the battlefield, slowly starting to make it's way towards the crystal. We didn't have time to do anything but focus on taking down this new threat, Ororo bringing thunder strikes down onto it one after another, slowly forcing it down further and further until it finally had to land. Jenny charging at it while Betsy sent out psionic attacks at the boss. I kept my focus on the mobs running towards the crystal directly, until the Demon Lord suddenly launched a fireball at me anyways, a blue shield later and fireball broke against it.

I turned and fired a few explosive beams out at it, the shots smashing into it's body and knocking it onto it's back from the ****. Jenny leaped onto it and started clawing away, Betsy stabbing into it's legs trying to slow it down as much as she could, Ororo changing the weather to try and freeze it as she pelted it with ice shards, frost slowly growing on it's limbs slowing it down further. Suddenly it roared out, a group of new enemies coming out wielding staffs, they launched fireballs at the clones and anyone else nearby. Following them was another new enemy type with long ears, grey skin and a hateful gaze, they wielded dual swords and were walking slowly, until they caught sight of the clones. They ran at the clones at full speed, a surprising quickness as they began carving through clones with a look of sadistic glee on their faces. If there weren't so many that suddenly came running out the clones likely would have done better against them, but before I knew it there was over a dozen of them charging at me as my clones were slaughtered. "SHIT!" I took flight, I wasn't about to risk getting chopped to pieces. The system identified the new enemy types as necromancers and dark elves, I only just saw the necromancers throwing out bags in front of them, a dozen skeletal soldiers pulled together with magic as they yanked jagged looking swords out of the bags. A dozen of them, for each necromancer, and there was somewhere between 30-40 of them.

"New problem!" I shouted out to the others, trying to use some explosive beams to take out the necromancers. The skeletons got in the way while their summoners sent fireballs at me, the Dark elves literally circling around directly under me, following me to make sure I couldn't land without getting stabbed from every angle by their blades. Ororo was the one to come to my aid, Betsy and Jenny keeping the demon lord form getting closer to the crystal. Ororo was quick to send some lightning strikes at the dark elves, shocking their weapons and frying them in their own armor. With her help dealing with the dark elves I could land and send my clones back in, slowing the tide of undead trying to go for the crystal. The necromancers were trying to bring back the skeletons that my clones were able to knock around, reviving them almost faster than my clones could deal with them, I fired off some explosive beams at the necromancers and ended up shattering some skeletons. Wait... it was taking them longer to revive the ones that were shattered. Realizing that I blasted as many skeletons as I could in quick succession, breaking around 20 of them and helping my clones to get the upper hand- "FUCK!"

I cursed out as I flew through the air, something heavy having smacked into my side and sending me flying, a large chunk of my health vanishing as I struggled to stand back up. Looking over I caught sight of the Ogre that had just smashed it's club into my body, that would remind me to keep a better look out for enemies... I electrocuted the big bastard until his health bar broke, keeping an eye on my clones as they began to slowly overwhelm the necromancers. It took a few more minutes to bring down all the necromancers, but I managed it only 30 seconds before the last of the demon lords health was taken off, Jenny taking out it's legs as Betsy put a psionic spike into it's skull. With the wave finally over I made sure to refund the defenses that had been used, I was not planning on another run today. When we backed out and left the danger room, still nowhere near close to the prizes we wanted, we returned to seeing the professor standing next to Helen.

"Ah Zane! I trust your training is coming along well?" Jenny nodded her head and explained what we'd gone through, Helen asking if I was alright. "Yeah I'll be okay, just a reminder to be more careful in the future." I responded, Helen nodding her head at that. "Zane, before you head off there's something that arrived for you. Forge is currently getting it set up I believe, as well as insuring that there isn't anything harmful within it." I tilted my head at that for a moment, not sure what he'd meant. "You did make a deal with Tony correct?" My eyes widened as I realized what the professor was talking about!

Has it arrived already?
